Pictures from January 21st, 2001
The daylength has been increasing since a month already. However, the sun is rather low even at noon time.
A typical weather of January - it's clear sky but rather cold (-16 °C)
- Tornio on background
as seen from the Swedish neighbour city Haparanda.
Note the long shadow of photographer.
- The old church
of 18th century on the Finnish side of the river as seen from Haparanda
- on the river side
The river is mostly ice covered but still open in the mid. Fog may be seen over the water
- same location
as in the previous picture
- River landscape
30 min after sunset. Note the colors on the sky.
- Skidoo tracks
crossing on the river ice
- the walking path
on the tide water bank between the Golf green and the river
- 30 minutes after
sunset as seen on the golf green. Note the vertical halo above the sunset location
- 43
minutes after sunset , it's getting darker. However the halo is still there.
- Amaryllis
getting flowers the second time after Christmas. The flowers do not love the long dark winter period. There was hardly any hour of sunshine during the whole month November. The avocado lost yesterday its last two leaves after the second winter of its life.
