As stated earlier in this tutorial, 99% of all problems I see are caused by the improper creation of the meta file. If you have not already read my tutorial on the proper way to create a meta file, please review it first.
How to add RealAudio to your web page.
Here are the steps I follow to troubleshoot RealAudio problems:
1) Check your media file - Check your RealMedia file on your local system. If it won't play on your system, it won't play when you upload it. You should also check the uploaded media file. Go into your Geocities File Manager and click on the "View" link next to your .ra or .rm file and be sure thet the uploaded file is not corrupt.
2) Check your meta file - Use your browser to go to your web site and attempt to play your RealMedia file. This will cause the meta file to load on your system and you can use the "Find" feature to find the downloaded meta file in your browser's cache. "Rename" the meta file to a .txt file extension and then double click the file to open it in Notepad. Check that the url is correct and all the neighborhood names have the proper capitalization.
The most common error I see is that the url will start with "pnm" instead of "http" as it should. This is caused by doing a "Save as" in the creation of the meta file (instead of "Save" and Rename), or by selecting for RealServer settings in the creation of the media file which then tries to make the meta file find the RealServer.
If you follow these directions for troubleshooting and *still* have problems, you may write to me for help and I will try to help you.
