A thumper from the movie Dune. Based on the book by Frank Herbert. I read all the novels in the series last summer, and I felt inspired to do some objects from it. I started out tring to make a spice harvester, but I wanted something I could turn into a cyclic animation to test out the Smacker Video Player, which I had just downloaded, so I went with this instead. |
640x480 32 bit JPEG | This is Lucia's Pendant from the game Lunar II: Eternal Blue for the SEGA CD. In my opinion, it's one of the better console RPGs ever made. This took about 2 hours, and most of that was spent positioning the scaled sphere on top just right. |
640x480 32 bit JPEG | This is what I think the ElfStones look like from the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. They are made of triangle meshes. |
800x600 32 bit JPEG | What can I say? I was bored one Sunday night, and decided to try rendering a chess table. It looked pretty cool, so I started work on all the peices individually, and then added them to the scene later. After spending about an hour tring to make a horse's head that didn't look like a greyhound's, I gave up and went with a helmeted knight. |
1024x768 32 bit JPEG | I stumbled across some spiffy planet texture maps at http://maps.jpl.nasa.gov/ and decided to make a scene using them. Download animated cloud movie here (602kb) (Note: Must have DivX Codec installed to view movie) AVI file was created with Jasc Software's Animation Shop 3 Demo. Download POV-Ray source code for Earth image here |
800x600 32 bit JPEG | A wooden handled hairbrush on semi-reflective white tiles. The tiles are superquatric ellipsoids with a white "floor" just below the top edge to simulate tile grout. Download POV-Ray source code for hairbrush image here |
800x600 32 bit JPEG | I stumbled across an awsome close-up photo of some color crayons on http://www.dpreview.com and felt inspired to create something like it in POV-Ray. The photo can be found here. POV-Ray's focal blur effect does add a touch of realism, but it comes at the cost of lengthy render times! This image took 5-6hrs to render in 800x600, and a whopping 15+ in 1600x1200. |
1024x768 32 bit JPEG | Rather than focus again on a single object, I decided to build a full scene. This took about 5 hours to code, not including test renders. The picture reflected in the mirror is taken from http://www.douglaspearce.com. Download source and includes |
800x600 32 bit JPEG | I decided to try making something simple but interesting to use as desktop wallpaper. You can download the zipped 1600x1200 uncompressed BMP here (155kb) |
600x600 32 bit JPEG | The idea for this came about while I was thinking of something fun to create using POV-Ray's "interior/media" functions. It allows for some interesting effects, and works very well for creating flames, smoke and gasses. |
