Indigo2 / Challenge M / Power Indigo2
Irix 6.5.x and lower

NOTE: Depending on the CPU or graphics, you will need a different flavour of Irix 6.2 or Irix 5.3. There are some Indigo2 CPUs (200mhz & 250mhz) which have 2mb of Secondary Cache. In this case, you'll need to use the flavour of Irix 6.2 labeled (Irix 6.2 for Indigo2 IMPACT 10000) which supports 2mb of Secondary Cache. The SGI code for this Irix version is 813-0469-002 dated 06/96. If you install the normal "Vanilla" version of Irix 6.2 on a system with 2mb Secondary Cache, the system will do a nice core dump & crash if you perform certain functions on the system. There is also a flavour of Irix 5.3 which specifically supports 2mb of Secondary Cache.

O2
Irix 6.3
Irix 6.5.x

NOTE: The Irix 6.3 O/S was created specifically for the SGI O2 systems only. There have been rumours that it can be installed on an Indigo2 through a network but I've never tried it so I can't confirmed it.

Octane
Irix 6.4
Irix 6.5.x

The Recommended version is Irix 6.5.3 or later to support R12000 and correct bug fixes. (See installation guide for required versions verses system config)

Origin 200 / Origin 2000
Irix 6.4
Irix 6.5.x

NOTE: The Irix 6.4 O/S was created specifically for the Origin and Octane systems only.

The Recommended version is Irix 6.5.3 or later to support R12000 and correct bug fixes. (See installation guide for required versions verses system config)

Origin 2000 Rack
Irix 6.4 and Irix 6.5.x, these version require patches. Recommended version is Irix 6.5.8 to support R12000 and correct bug fixes. (See installation guide for required versions verses system config)

Challenge / Challenge DM / Challenge S
Irix 6.5.x and lower

Onyx
Irix 6.5.x and lower

NOTE: Irix 5.3 comes with only an option to install an EFS filesystem. There is a flavour of Irix 5.3 that supports the XFS filesystem but that version needs to be specifically ordered from SGI.
