Getting Disconnected

Reasons why you might be getting disconnected:

Access Number is having a Problem:

  • Try another local access #, or if they have a 1800# try that. IF you don't get disconnected, then you might want to contact your *ISP and inform them of that.

WinSock.Dll / WSock32.Dll:

  1. Find winsock.dll;wsock32.dll and check to see...
  2. (Win 95) 42KB;65KB
  3. (Win 98) 21KB;40KB
  4. (Win NT/2000) 3KB;22KB
  5. Correct size? go to step 7 if not go to 6
  6. You'll need to extract it! You'll need to have the Windows CD or Find win*cab (and when you do get the Path!) Now that we have that (I hope) click on Start, Run type COMMAND then click on OK. in the prompt type CD \ and press Enter. Then type CD C:\Windows\System and press Enter then type the following:
    extract /a /y <path for windows cabs, e.g. D:\win95\> \win##_##.Cab winsock.dll
    (replace ## with 95 or 98; ##_## with 95_02 or 98_22 e.g. d:\win98\win98_22.cab)
    extract /a /y <path for windows cabs, e.g. D:\win95\> \win##_##.Cab wsock32.dll
    (e.g. extract /a /y D:\win95\win95_02.Cab winsock.dll)
  7. Click on Start, Run type COMMAND click on OK. At the C: prompt type in PING 127.0.0.1 then press Enter if you get replies, great your done! If not go to Step 6

Next is your phone lines:

  • Call the Local telephone Co. and see if the phone lines in your area are damaged

Modem is Bad or having a problem:

  1. Fastest way to figure this one out, use Hyper Terminal to test if it is working you can do the following to find it : Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Hyper Terminal (or if win98 Communications > Hyper Terminal >) if not you will need to install it or find hypertrm.exe (to learn how to find look to the left below Get Paid To Surf) to install it you need your windows CD or Win CAB files! Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, Communications, make sure Hyper terminal has a check in it, if so, uncheck it click Ok, Apply, Go Back and then Recheck it and then [Ok], [Apply], [OK] and then restart your computer)
  2. Your modem MAY even need to have Updated drivers, so you might want to check that out as well!
  3. Also, you might want to try adding an "Extra Settings" for your modem. Here are a few of the Standard ones: ATZ (resets modem) AT&F (if you have a US Robotics try this one AT&F1&D0S0=0) more can be found at http://www.ModemHelp.Org
