[676] The line is busy.

What to do first?
  1. Well, what you can do is first, try Dialing the number using your Phone!
  2. If you do NOT get a busy signal, instead a fax type (Handshaking) noise, Great! That means a few things.
    1. Modem could be having a problem do a Hyper Terminal Test
    2. Try putting x3 in the Extra Settings
This can be found by doing this: Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double-Click on the Icon labeled Modems. Highlight your modem (if it isn't already) and select [Properties] Click on Connection, Then [Advanced] then Enter the Extra Settings of x3, Click on OK, then OK again, then Close/Ok
    3. Uncheck "Wait for dial-tone before dialing"
This can be found by doing this: Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double-Click on the Icon labeled Modems. Highlight your modem (if it isn't already) and select [Properties] Click on Connection, Then uncheck Wait for Dial-Tone before Dialing
    4. Add four commas before the Access number e.g. ,,,,765-4321
    5. Remove *70 (call waiting disabling string) or any other dialing properties that might not be correct.
  3. If you DO get a busy signal, then TRY a different access number. As well try a 800# if you do not have a local Access Number.
