This helps the slow connection speeds (for DUN)
  • TCP/IP may be corrupted

TCP/IP may be corrupted

  1. Get your Windows 95/98 CD - if you can't find that try this: Start, Find, Files or Folders. in the Named field type win*.cab, where it says Look in: click on the [v] and select My Computer. make sure it has a check mark in [x] Include Subfolders, Click on Find Now. If you find them, great continue to step 2, if not, contact the makers of your computer, and see about getting a copy of the Windows CD.
  2. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.
  3. Double-Click on Network. Highlight TCP/IP (Dial-Up Adapter), select Remove. (note: if it wasn't in there, that probably was your problem) This should leave you with one item (Dial-Up Adapter) or if you have more, that's ok as well. We're just focusing on the TCP/IP for Dial-Up Adapter. When that is done, Click on OK at the bottom, it MAY give you a prompt saying your network is not complete do you want to continue? select Yes, if not, that's ok. when it asks if you would like to restart say NO.
  4. Press the F3 key (or Start, Find, Files or Folders) in the Named field type vip.386; vtcp.386 then where it says Look In: click on the [v] and select My Computer. Make sure it has a check mark in [x] Include Subfolders, if so, click on Find Now
  5. Right-Click over top of the first file, vip.386 (located in C:\windows\system ONLY) select Rename, and then click in back of the 6 and type .old (it will look like this vip.386.old) then repeat to the vtcp.386 (in C:\Windows\System ONLY, will look like this vtcp.386.old) Close the Find Files or Folders
  6. Double-Click on Network (it might say network is not complete do you want to continue? select Yes, if not, that's ok) Click on Add, highlight Protocol, click on Add. under Manufactures select Microsoft, then TCP/IP on the other side, then press OK.
  7. You might not have Client for Microsoft Networks in there, most ISP's do use that so lets add that as well; Click on Add, select Client, click on Add. under Manufactures select Microsoft, then Client for Microsoft Networks, should be already selected, press OK.
  8. Click on Identification (tab at the top) and make sure there is at least ONE character in each of the three fields, if so, click on OK. when it asks if you to restart, click on Yes.
