MIS Courses MIS curriculum is designed in the light of recommendations by an advisory committee. The MIS advisory committee comprises of prominent executives from the leading local and multinationals businesses in Pakistan. It represents businesses that specialize in information technology like IT vendors, IT consultants and software houses or are its advanced users like banks, pharmaceuticals, and management consultants. It meets regularly to review the MIS curriculum. Structure MIS curriculum is divided into two main areas; technology intensive area of information systems and sciences, and management intensive area of business administration. Courses in each of these areas are further grouped in the following categories:
Course in the information systems and sciences area are grouped under Management of Information Systems, Types of Information Systems, Systems Development Life Cycle and Information Technologies. Courses in the business administration area are grouped under accounting, marketing, finance, management, and economics. Areas of Emphasis in MIS The structure of the MIS program at the Center for Computer Studies reflects the requirements of the target jobs at the strategic, middle and operational levels in the MIS area. There are four critical areas of emphasis in this program: 1 . There is a balanced mix of business and computer oriented courses. MIS graduates would be technically confident in both business and technology areas, as well as in the application of technology in business. This would facilitate their career growth as they move from technology intensive jobs to business intensive jobs. 2. Business courses in this program have a computer orientation. Computer related courses have a business orientation. This would helps MIS graduates act as a bridge between the two worlds; world of information technology and world of business. The courses are appropriately taught by faculty qualified and experienced in both the technology and business areas. 3. More courses are designed around projects. At least one course in each semester is designed around a heavy duty implementation project. This helps MIS graduates in IT project management jobs at the higher levels. 4. Exposure of actual business processes and strategic uses of IT through internships and implementation projects undertaken for a business organization during successive semesters. This prepares MIS graduates for the real world. . |
