PhD Program                                                                                         

The Institute offers a program leading to the degree of Ph.D. in Business Administration. The goal of the program is to prepare students for creative work that will contribute to the on-going developments of their major field. The scope of this program provides opportunity to students to explore their field of examination in much greater detail than is possible in typical MBA courses. Admission to this program is offered to applicants demonstrating a commitment to research, teaching & scholarship.

Applicants for admissions to the Ph.D. program must be holders of an MBA degree with minimum 'B' grade (2nd. Division) or holders of Master's degree in related fields with minimum 'A' grade (1st Division) from a recognized university. All applicants, except MBAs from the Institute, are required to perform satisfactorily in an admission process consisting of an aptitude test, an interview and a group discussion to qualify for admission. Ph.D. candidates from foreign countries are required to take the GMAT.

Courses of Study

  1. Seminar in Advanced Management. This course will cover Comparative Management i.e. analysis, comparison and evaluation of management approaches in different cultures and countries. The course will make extensive use of articles from various journals of management sciences, Harvard Business Review and review of recent books on management.
  2. Advanced Quantitative Methods (1 Course)
  3. Advanced Research Methodology (1 Course) covering computer application in business and research.
  4. Three advanced courses in the area of specialization

For non-MBAs the Doctoral Committee will decide the required courses depending upon the background of the candidates.

After successful completion of the course work and passing of the comprehensive examinations, the candidate will select a topic in consultation with his/her advisor appointed by the Doctoral Committee. The candidate will defend his/her dissertation proposal before the Doctoral Committee and after approval of the proposal the candidate will conduct research and complete his/her dissertation. This stage, requiring independent research, offers each candidate the opportunity to deal deeply into some problem requiring philosophical treatment. The candidate who is declared successful in defense of his/her thesis will be awarded doctoral degree.
