DAY ONE

Soviet Submarine U-521 Foxtrot

Commissioned in 1974 and decomissioned in 1994, this diesel sub was sold to Vancouver and towed to Westminster Quay. The submarine held 75, sub 5'6" men for up to 7 days under water at a time. After surfacing for 4 hours for its 3 3000HP diesel engines to recharge it's 400 tons of lead acid batteries, it went under for another 7 days. Each mission was between 3-6 months.

Fire all torps! All 6 of the bow torps.

DAY TWO

Hiking in to Lake Garibaldi

The 9.5 km hike climbed over 800m, leaving at 11:30 we had crawled up the mountain by 4:30. What a hot day!! >28C. Here we are after 7km on a bridge just before all the views.

First Lake

After the steepest climb of the Barrier, along Barrier Creek, we come to Barrier Lake. On the other end of the lake you can see the Little Garibadi Lake spilling into Barrier Lake. And on this end of the lake, you can see Barrier Lake spilling into Barrier Creek.

The Brits

Just before the view we were passed by 2 brits, Matt(hew) and Ben. Matt had lived in Australia for 3 years and met his brother over here on the way back to the UK. Matt was known as 'Coffin Man' by his Bombin' (Cannonball jumps into the water) with his arms crossed.

After passing Barrier and Little Garibaldi Lakes, we come to a bridge crossing the rapids between Garibaldi Lake and the Little Baldi. This is where we get a spectacular view of the mountain and the Lake.

Lakeshore Trail - Flooded

Now we are travelling the last 400m of flat, along the big lake towards our campsite, but the Lake has flooded over 4 feet. The rangers have been kind enough to put planks all along the lake, and some additional help (knotted rope).

DAY THREE

Preview of the lake (only one image corrected and downloaded so far)

A shot of us at our cookhouse - number 3, by the lake, in front of Mount Garibaldi.
