Fallen Angel
What did I do that was so wretched?
What was my heinous crime?
Which caused my father to turn his back,
And forsake me for all time.
He gives us the task to watch over his flock,
And the gift to see into thier souls.
He expects us to love with all our hearts,
Yet stay in complete control.
I did so well for so many years,
But then another came along.
While peering into her gentle eyes,
I could no longer stay strong.
I fell in love with a mortal woman,
And there is nothing I wouldn't have done.
To be in her arms and feel her lips,
Upon my flesh as we become one.
My wish had been granted, I was sent down to earth,
To be with the girl I adored.
But not as a mortal, I would live there forever,
And never again see the face of my lord.
I had wonderful years with the mortal I loved
Though, was saddened as I watched her grow old.
Then the day finally came, when I laid her to rest,
And handed my father her soul.
And now I just sit here, with tears in my eyes.
My lover has long since been gone.
And I watch all the aeons one by one,
Come by and then pass along.
Eternal loneliness is the price I must pay,
For half a century of bliss.
You may ask, "Was it worth it? It was such a short time."
I would have done it for one simple kiss.
