Comments: I'm looking for info on William Isaiah Oates, b. 1796 in South Carolina and his family. His son, Caraway Oates, b. 1819 in Camden, South Carolina, married Martha Williams in 1836. Caraway died at the Battle of Gettysburg. Their son, Hilliard Henry Oates b. 20 Oct 1851, in Aberville (or Arberville?), Alabama, married Minerva Peeples (Peebles, peoples?) in 1872. Hilliard and Minerva were my great-great grandparents. Their daughter Mary Lee was my great grandmother. Any connection?
