There are many replacements for Notepad, but they all make the mistake of trying to turn Notepad into a word processor. They have lots of features and they're all quite nice, but all the added features makes them load slowly-- if I want to wait 10 seconds to get to a document I'll just use Write, thank you. The whole point of Notepad was to be quick. The author of SuperPad understood this. The result is Notepad as it should have been.
SuperPad Tips
The character size at printout is determined by the setting "Lines per Page" under "Print Setup", not by the font size used to display characters on the screen. Characters are automatically resized to generate the number of lines per page you specified. Try setting the Lines per Page to a high number for smaller print that is quite readable and saves paper.Want to make SuperPad the text editor that Internet Explorer uses to display source code? there is no setting in IE to specify the text editor, but if you make a copy of SuperPad (spad.exe) and rename it notepad.exe, IE will think its Notepad and use it to view source code. Just be sure and put it in your windows directory, and delete or rename notepad.exe first. I've found it useful when making web pages. Both Notepad and SuperPad (for technical reasons involving 4 letter extensions) sometimes are unable to display source code from IE. Even if the source code file doesn't display from IE, you can still load the file from the text editor.
