The presidential election...

So, the tickets are now set it will be McCain/Balin vs Obama/Biden. Interesting tickets to say the least.

I had questioned over the last few months about voting for Obama. I don't like some parts of his Energy plan and his Economic plan. I was encouraged by some of the things I heard from McCain.

After the last two days... I am pretty much settled on Obama. I see far fewer negatives with Obama and I think his views on foreign policies are refreshing and different. He also seems to have a (to steal a line from The Sports Guy) VP of common sense about him. It was so refreshing to hear him talk about the fact you can have different opinions on national security without being unpatriotic. He gets the fact that everyone has their own opinions and that just because yours might be different then mine doesn't make us love our country any less. It just means we see two different ways to accomplish the same goal. I liked what I heard Thursday night from him. He stepped up to the plate and challenged McCain in the areas where Obama appears the weakest. If he takes that attitude with him to the White House I think we are in good shape.

As for the other thing that has swayed me... Gov. Palin as VP? Romney would of filled the VP slot much better then Palin. Palin has been governer for 20 months and before that was the mayor of a town of 9,000 people. Now, she has the prospect of leading the country if anything should happen to a 72 year old John McCain? I'm sorry but at least Obama has over a decade of experience in State or Federal government and not just 20 months. She also does nothing to fill his self appointed weakness on the economy. A void the Romney would of filled nicely and provided a solid ticket to run for the presidency with.

Aside, from this it appears that McCain is just trying to win over Clinton supporters who want to see a woman in the White House. I think this is sad, votes should be earned on the merits of the individuals and policies and platforms that they are running under. By neglecting his weaknesses in his VP pick and going for female voters I don't think I could bring myself to vote for McCain at all now.

So... Go Obama/Biden in 2008!
