MIZZOU is a traditional football powerhouse with a history of excellence.

The MU Tigers first took the field on October 20, 1890.

The nations first Homecoming game was played in Columbia, MO in 1911. Coach Chester Brewer issued the call to all Alumni to "Come Home" and watch MU beat KU at home. Every school in the nation now has a Homecoming game.

Football historians credit MIZZOU'S Don Faurot with college football's greatest invention--the option play. Faurot's Split T formation was born in Columbia, MO in 1941. With few improvizations, the option play still dominates college football. Today, virtually all of the nations traditional football powerhouses, including MU, use some offshoot of the Split T option play. Different flavors of Faurot's option play include the Wishbone, I-Formation, Veer, & Wingbone sets.

The nations best football players always choose MIZZOU. Here is a list of amazing accomplishments:

  • 110 All-Academic Selections
  • 245 All-Conference Selections
  • 23 First Team All-Americans
  • 11 National Football Foundation Hall of Famer's
  • 1 N.F.L. Hall of Famer
  • 173 Tigers in Professional Football
  • 21 Bowl Game Appearances
  • 5 NCAA Bowl-Game Records

MU is proud of it's glorious past, and is excited about it's bright future playing in the nations premier football conference--the Big XII.
