Subject: scrolling in frames
Hi,
I am currently working on a framed site. In the main frame the text is
displayed in paragraph size chunks surrounded by proportionate space
with small arrow heads back and forward as appropriate giving the
illusion that they are new pages.
This works fine until I switch off scrolling in the frameset...Hmmph!
To
leave on scrolling completely negates the purpose of what I am doing.
Is there a work around for this?
TIA,
Justine

Good Morning and Happy New Year,
1.) I am having a problem with a DHTML page that I set up on my home
page
that works just fine in IE 4.0 and is supposed to work in Netscape 4.0,
but
it chokes on the code and crashes the browser. Would somebody be so kind
and take a look at this page?

2.) I have a working DHTML slide show demonstration at the following
web
site: (This only works in IE 4.0, because of using VBScript.)

Question for the list...
How many folks submit art for the cover contest? - Would anyone be
interested in a gallery of submissions? It would be nice to see what
gets submitted vs. what ends up being used. I'd be happy to host them if
there is sufficient interest...

After using FrontPage, Web Express, Visual Page (Symantec), Corel Web
Designer,
Dreamweaver, and probably a couple of others, I've realized one thing: WYSIWG
is
fine for general layout, but you still can't avoid coding yourself, especially
with JavaScript. Besides, is the extent of anyone's mouseover usage so large
and
diversified that it needs to be done in a WYSISYG editor? Sure, it would
be
nice, but once you get your basic program down, all you have to do is re-use
the
code, find an alternate method of generating the image references that are
unique per usage, and drop them in. I use Excel and a small utility that
generates image tags (with the height and width attributes). It's almost
effortless.
Because there are multiple ways to get to the same result ( as with
mouseovers), and because everyone's needs are different, there's always
the
possibility the software won't cooperate. The software must be so customizable
that you can actually set how each tag/page element is generated through
an
'Options' screen, would include robust JavaScript support. Until this happens,
the perfect WYSIWYG tool can still be considered unborn.
Dreamweaver is certainly the most noble attempt yet, and I would recommend
it as well. To pick up the slack, Allaire's HomeSite is the one I use. It's
the
closest thing you can get to WYSIWYG while still coding manually (and enjoying
the benefits thereof).
For what it's worth...
Regards,
Scott Swayne

Subject: Americana, or no?
My partner and I are in the midst of designing our new company logo and
the text treatment that I've come up with involves the Americana font.
My partner feels Americana is a much maligned font in the graphics
community and unworthy of consideration. I happen to think it really
works for this particlular word combo so I'm not so quick to pull the
trigger. I'd really like to hear if anyone shares his aversion for
Americana.
(Unfortunately I can't throw out my treatment for you to evaluate. My
partner is a little paranoid someone might apprehend it).
Any thoughts?
Erik
