Subject: SITE Review..
Hi list!
Just finnished the layout and content for a client,
The site is in two languages, Swedish and Finish.. The Swedish
version has content but the Finish version has the same content on
every page.. Check any of them.. Your choice.. Here;s the Swedish
version: http://www.ronn.net/mainse.html
What I would want to know is:
1. Is the Layout attractive?!? What do you think?
2. Navigation? Is it good/ bad??
3. Loading time and connection-speed would be nice..
4. Do the tables go 'wank' on your platform/ browser??
Thanks!
Kim Granlund.

Subject: targeting frames
Hi,
I have had a few responses about the targeting of specific pages, whilst
still being held within their original framesets...
everyone has resigned to telling me that I need to build a frameset
identical to the original but specific to that page!!
Is this really true..?
Where are porter and jester when you need them?!!!????
Surely there is a clever and overcomplicated way of doing this!??!

Subject: Video Capture/Editing?
Greetings and High Thoughts to all~
I only happened onto this list a few days ago, and though I generally
lurk awhile before venturing to post, I find myself unusually compelled
to announce (to whomever may care to read this) that I'm extraordinarily
pleased by what I've been able to glean so far! What a serendipitous
discovery!
I've been teaching myself this webpage stuff in fits and starts over
the
past year or so, and am just now starting to get serious about it. It's
my new year's resolution to do a makeover on the website of the zoo
where I work -
It seems I impressed the zoo director sufficiently - I basically have
carte blanche regarding the design aspect... as long as the content is
presented well. What a great opportunity for a beginner, eh?
WELL-- the zoo just put together a wonderful multimedia lab(!) centered
around a Pentium II 233 mHz, 6 gig HD, 128 Mb RAM, DVD-ROM, 2x speed
Rewriteable CD recorder- with cool peripherals including three different
microscopic devices, and a gonzo movie projector with killer
sound-surround (we rented "Contact" last night and ordered
pizza...WOW!).
Ok, now that you know where I'm coming from, to the point: We would like
to digitally capture and edit movie clips - from video cassette,
camcorder, CD-ROM, etc. - with sound, and possibly even mix in a few
stills. We need to impress the Board O' Directors. I'm not up on the
available tools, and we really need to keep the bill under $1,000.00.
Someone suggested Snappy for the still shots. But is there an
economically priced tool that will capture (and edit) clips, sounds and
still pictures from both a camcorder and a VCR (as well as CD ROMs)? I'd
like to keep flexibility as a priority - i.e.: able to work with as many
various mediums and input/output devices as possible.
I'm afraid I've rambled on a bit long - especially on my introductory
post! - and for that, I humbly apologize. Also, I apologize if the
subject is not completely web-oriented, but I don't rule out the
potential coolness this could bring to the website, too.
Again, I'm happy as a clam to have stumbled in here. I'm gonna try to
pick yer brains 'til mine is full. *grin* (May not take long.)
Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

Miro (www.miro.com) have capture cards
for the pc that do
the job nicely and are easily within your budget.
I have the (now deleted) MIRO DC-10 and am very happy
with it. (some of my captures on gavinfriday.com/video.html
if you want to check out the results) I got mine
second hand for around 500 guilders (250 US dollars).
Then there's the AV master, from FAST, which we never
got to work at my previous job, but that had to
do with the COMPAQ machines we had to work with.
AV master cards are a bit more pricey - the
one we had was 1700 guilders (850 dollars)
HOpe this helps.

OK, I'm going out on a limb here, but I noticed that the filenames for
both
backgrounds do not adhere to the 8.3 16-bit naming convention. It shouldn't
make a difference, as the browser is supposed to compensate for that (I
believe!?!). Try renaming the files to something shorter (e.g., change
"PanelBack.gif" to "soilback.gif", and "background.gif"
to "bsktback.gif"),
change the filenames in the code, and see if she can see it now. I
encountered occasional problems with this a long while back, and decided
that I would ALWAYS follow the 8.3 naming convention, and use all lowercase
letters. Haven't had any problems since.

Hola babblers - i was wondering is someone can give me some help with
some
java scripting. I'm creating a pop-up menu for a site that is launched

a link is clicked. The window pops-up, but the height and width
specifications denoted below in my script does not seem to effect the size

I would suggest the Miro DC30. Great Stuff. It must be around $600 and
comes
with a bundle of softwart tools. (The best tool for editing is Premiere
from
Adobe, by the way...(IMO) Pricely!!!)
The DC30 can capture and edit full screen video with up to 30fps. Enough
for
most (even semi-professional video) purposes...
Hope this will help a little...

/me does the "javascript/html" jig on the table.
with that done.
i almost answered this about five times.. but didnt know how to word
it,
so bear with me
you bust a frame setup.. and just link to that site ... into the main
frame window..i think i even have an example:
go to: www.star101.com... click on the JAM TV link in the nav bar.
you will notice it links to some damn thing .... but still has their
nav
bar at the top.. (get it?)
the frame set calls the regular nav bar to the top, then calls the
extracuricular page to the main viewing window.
hope this helps :D

Here's one idea: add resizeable=0 ? And use "0" rather than "no".
I've used this with sucess:
<!-- hide it
function open_window(url) {
poem =
window.open(url,"wstevens",'toolbar=0,location=0,directories=0,status=0,menu
bar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=0,width=480,height=400');

Hi all....
....forgive me if this is another question reaffirming to the design

Is there a way to specify window size when someone surfs onto a site?
Suppose Jill User clicks a link out there that takes her to my site-
are
there tags or is there a script that will automatically resize her
window to the optimum viewing size that I predetermined? kinda like

I'm still working on compiling the FAQ. However, your post made me think
of
something that I could use a little feed back on from the other list
members out there.
I had been trying to stay away from covering the extremely basic questions
- -- providing links to other resources that do cover them -- using the
FAQ
to answer the more advanced issues that we discuss on the list. For
example, as of now, I'm not including a description of how to do a
JavaScript image rollover (I have links to places that discuss this) but
I
am including a Q/A on doing rollovers that involve animated GIFs.
What do you all think? My feeling is that there are enough resources
that
cover the basic issues that, as long as the FAQ can point people to them
in
appropriate places, it doesn't need to rehash all that material.
