Erik's DOSDoom optimisation page
In december -97, id software released the source code for LinuxDOOM. That was really great. Many people have started converting these to different platforms, and many also have improved the game in various ways. Chi Hoang, for example, started to port Doom to DOS, using DJGPP and Allegro. The project is called DOSDoom, and its official site is http://www.frag.com/dosdoom/. Eventually, Chi hadn't time to continue working on the project, so a team, lead by Andy Baker, took over the project. DOSDoom has many advantages to normal doom. For example:
It's very good that the source code is free: If anyone gets an idea about how to improve DosDoom in any way, he can do that by himself. Then he can just mail the new code to the DOSDoom team, who probably will include it in the next DOSDoom release.
Since 5/7 1998 I'm a member of the DOSDoom team. I'm mostly working with optimisation of the rendering routines.
