Policies
#Hicksville is a social channel, intended as a gathering place to discuss ideas and events, to engage in fun
and friendly conversation, and to seek advice, assistance or support about a broad range of issues. #Hicksville
has a very limited number of rules/policies, as we don't think it is all that complicated to have fun and be civil
at the same time.
Everyone is welcome in #Hicksville: young or old, short or tall, male or female, from the US or from afar. As
long as a person behaves civilly in the channel, we do not wish to exclude him or her.
Be sure that people who enter the channel are greeted (at least those who stay long enough for a greeting!).
You don't need to personally greet everyone; in fact, you may wish to let other channel members do so. However,
let's attempt to ensure that no one leaves #Hicksville with the feeling that he or she was ignored or snubbed.
Be friendly both to newcomers and regular channel members. It's fine to have favorite people with whom you converse
more readily, but try to avoid forming cliques which leave newcomers feeling isolated.
Disagreements and differences of opinion are expected and even welcomed; #Hicksville should be a venue for stimulating
discussions as well as fun chats. However, don't allow arguments to become offensive and disruptive. Personal disputes
should be handled outside the channel. Any attempts to bring personal disputes into the channel, will be promptly
handled by a channel op, resulting in a kick and/or ban, as they see fit.
#Hicksville is not a cybersex channel and ops have the right to enforce that by warning people who attempt to
use it for that purpose. If their warnings are ignored, they can kick and/or ban, as they see fit. However, we
are not the morals police of IRC; an occasional remark or isolated incident of inappropriate language or behavior
should not be overreacted to. At times it may be appropriate to recommend that a person visit another channel,
such as when programs or cybersex are requested.
Advise the channel managers when you have problems with users. Notify us by e-mail of the nick (and if possible,
the user@host address) of the offender. Report the nature of the problem and your recommendation as to whether
the person should be on our alert list or our ban list.
