The Mad Hobbit's Picture Gallery

The door creaks open, breaking the abandoned cobwebs hanging loosely on the frame. A cloud of dust erupts from the newly-formed gap. When you stop coughing, you step forward and raise your torch. Ancient artworks surround you, undisturbed for ages. Gingerly, you approach them, amazed at their clarity in this cavern where they have lain for aeons. Each individual image a masterpiece, you dare not disturb them from their appointed positions, leaving them to remain for future intrepid explorers like yourself.

Okay, enough of that. What you see before you are my pictures, which I made with POV-Ray 3.0. They were all made by hand in the text editor - no modellers or external programs were used, except a few specially noted cases. None of the pictures have been touched up either.

The smaller images are 320x240. Clicking one will take you to the 800x600 anti-aliased copy, and perhaps a few comments on the piece. All images have been compressed with lossless JPEG.

These images are copyright Darryl Shpak, 1997-1998. Feel free to admire them (or shake your head in disgust), and download them...they make great background images for your desktop. But don't upload them elsewhere, and do not try to call them your own. Questions, comments, criticisms, suggestions, abuse, and mindless ravings may be sent to madhobbit@geocities.com.

This site now serves as an archive of some old, old work. As of 2008, I don't do a whole lot of raytracing anymore, but I have done some pieces that are far, far better than these. They're not online anywhere, though, and my focus has shifted to photography. I like to think that my raytracing work was an early part of the development of my interest in visual arts...
