The mention of the rooster brings to mind my absolutely favorite unfortunate
translation. According to Chinese medicine, the meat, blood, etc., of
different types, including colors of chickens and roosters have different
properties, and are good for different types of sicknesses. So, sure as
death, there stood highlighted in the English version of the text on a
bottle of black rooster extract: "black cock good for female problems." I
tried to include this wonderful story in a forthcoming book but the editor
nixed it. Gee, wonder why. Paul (I apologize in advance for offending
