Tracker Tutorial
This short tutorial is for people who are too dumb, fat and lazy to get out there and learn how to use Impulse Tracler the hard way!
ThErmal EquinoX Presents
Everything you ever wanted to know about Impulse Tracker but were too afraid you'd look like a sad, loony, insipid little fool if you asked.
Download Impulse Tracker or any of the other tracker (Assume using Impulse Tracker) from our..... Where? ..........Tracker section. (DUH!)
Download a song (Module), any song from our .... Where? ......Module Section (Now we're getting somewhere!!!)
Unzip the files to their apropriate directories (Like you never knew!)
Run Impulse Tracker and load the song you downloaded - press F9 and choose the song (by pressing enter!) you downloaded (we only have the best at our site). Press F5 to hear the song - it'll give you an idea of what can be done with ths awsone tool. (But few are as good as we are!)
To make your own song - hold down 'Ctrl' and press 'n'.
On the create new song/pattern window that appears i.e. - you can actually see it! Click ONLY i.e only push your index finger down onto the left mouse button on the keep samples AND keep instruments buttons. (DO NOT attemp this if you're left handed!)
Press F2 (wow that was hard!) - This will load up the pattern editor (you can actually edit your very own patterns here! WOW) What is that I hear you asking? Every song has a basic pattern running through it whether it be a bass drum, guitar - whatever otherwise it wouldn't be a song - it would be some RAP CRAP.
Press F3 (This SHOULD work up a sweat if you're fat and ugly!) Move down onto a
sample (the word 'Play' will be high-lighted in Green). Move down until the sample you want
to hear is high-lighted in white. Press a letter eg. 'y' to hear it (REMEMBER TO SWITCH
YOUR SPEAKERS ON! And turn your hearing aid up!) Every key on the keyboard (The
white thing with the letters of the alphabet on) represents a musical note like on a piano i . e .
KEYBOARD = PIANO
Q = C
W = D
E = E
R = F
T = G
U = A
I = B
O = C ( octave up from last C above)
Once you have heard a sample that makes your ears tingle with joy (hint : don't trust you're left ear!) Move the cursor (the little white block on the screen which you control with that keyboard thiny in front of you!) over the sample and press F2 to return to the pattern editor.
Enter a few notes into the pattern editor i.e push some keys or just roll your head over the keyboard thingy! Remember that notes in the same row (the lines going accross or the same way as the horizon goes!) will play/mix at the same time - this is called a cord.
Once you have entered the background beat (the beat which plays in the background) you can listen to the absolute rubbish you just made by pressing F6. To make a new pattern press the + key (ONLY if you can add!). You will see an empty pattern editor and the amount in the top left hand side will increase.
You can arrange the ORDER your patterns will be played in by going to the order list menu by pressing F11. In the order list box (three coloumns) type the number of the pattern you wish to be played first second ect. Note you can re-call a pattern and play it in your song at any time eg you can type 000 000 000 001 002 005 etc... You can see which number the pattern is in the pattern editor in the top left corner of the screen (it says eg. pattern 001/023) This means pattern number 1 of 23.
To hear your mish mash of rubbishy squimish of a song press F5
You are now on your way to becoming the next Robert Miles, Carl Cox, Jon Digweed or Homer Simpson of the music world!
P.S ThEmal EquinoX hopes this has helped your peanut of a brain make a decent track and if you're any good we might think of putting your track on our page, otherwise we'll just laugh in yur phace!
And if you're extremly retarded and don't know what we just said in the tutorial then either SHOOT YOURSELF with a 9mm or EMAIL US! (See Below)
