My Overclcoking Experience

After all this talk of overclocking I just had to try it myself and here is what I learned:

Not every system can be overclocked- (The Processor itself may be a limiting factor) Also check your BIOS version, without the latest BIOS you may ot be able to use some of the Jumpers settings.

My Test on a PB 640-

Update-

"I may have info to solve the problem of "please insert bootable media in drive" when overclocking your PB640. I read your article and tried it myself. The only processor speed the computer would acknowledge was 180. It did ask for the disk. I changed it back. However, I just purchased a Pentium Overdrive 200 MHz with MMX and had the same problem. I called Intel and they resolved the problem. Even knew what kind of computer I had when I told them the problem. He told me to "REM" out the line in config.sys concerning the CD. I did and it booted just fine, although I didn't have a CD in Windows95. The answer is to update your CR581 CD driver with the one dated 1/97. I have them and can send them to you if you wish. I downloaded them from some site I found on net, but didn't write it down.

This same solution may solve your problem when overclocking, sounds the same. By the way my computer is very fast. Utilities with chip indicate 200 mhz and no jumper changes. Also the motherboard recognizes the chip running at 200 mhz when it boots." - No name, just an email address which I chose not to post.

Result -

I tried some other setting as I did before and none of them worked, I could not even get the 180 to get to the A: again.

I guess I can forget about overclcoking for now, at least until I can get a hold of another processor.

The latest news I have is on the AMD K6-2 300, I am sucesesfully Overclocking it to 330 MHz with no problems, this is done with a Powerleap adapter. Read all about it in my PowerLeap section.
