Note: HDDFIX and DMA has been designed for use ONLY on Packard Bell
Systems with PB680 and PB720 motherboards.
Issue -
The CD-ROM drive will not be recognized by BIOS or by Windows
95 after rebooting the system.
HDDFIX is a utility which fixes the hard disk controller setup
on PB680 and PB720 systems running Windows95, and restores the secondary
IDE controller functionality.
DMA is a utility which enables the Bus-Mastering DMA transfer
support of the hard disk controller. Bus-Mastering DMA will boost
performance by freeing up CPU usage during hard disk / CDROM transfers,
this will leave a larger percentage of CPU time free to perform other tasks
such as decoding images, playing animations, etc... |
HDDFIX Installation
1. Boot up Windows95 as normal.
2. Insert a blank formatted floppy into
drive A:\.
3. Unpack HDDFIX to the root directory
of A:\.
4. Open A:\.
5. Right-click once on the HDDFIX icon.
6. Left-click on the option "Install",
this will then install the needed files for supporting the hard disk controller
and remove previously installed ones.
7. When it is done copying files and
the hourglass pointer returns to a normal pointer remove the floppy diskette,
close all open windows, click on "Start", select "Shut Down", "Restart
Computer", and then click on yes.
8. When Windows95 starts booting again
a dialog box stating that "New hardware has been found" will appear, this
will re-detect your hard disk controller and re-install it properly.
9. When the primary controller has been
detected and setup you will be prompted to restart your system. Click
on "NO".
10. After clicking "NO" the system will continue
and detect the secondary controller, after which you will be prompted to
restart again. This time click "YES" to restart.
11. The system will restart and the secondary
IDE port, as well as devices connected should be fully functional. |
