The motherboard is the center of any system, because it will determine what components your system will support. Everything from the CPU to your sound card is connected to the motherboard. The identification of which board is in your system is the key to answering questions relating to your system.
This page is dedicated to the PB 790 system types. The 790 is one of the new ATX style cases that Packard Bell is selling. Pb is using tNEC motherboards in some of thier sytems, does anyone know if this is one of them?
Motherboards are affected by the chip sets used on them; these chip sets determine how your computer uses data and what hardware your system can support. The 790 Motherboard has a Intel 82430TX dual PCIset (MTXC and PIIX4) that provides memory/cache control, PCI bus control, ISA bus compatibility, and Local Bus IDE support.
The CPU is probably the central part of the computer; it does most of the work. There are several types of processors on the market today. Intel is the leader with their successful Pentium Processors. Intel has just introduced a new Processor called MMX. Click here to see the insides of the Pentium chip (Large Graphic File). Has any one used any other processors (AMD, Cyrix) on this motherboard?

The PB 790 system features twin 168-pin DIMM sockets located at (J5F2-Bank 0) and (J5G1-Bank 1) on the motherboard.
These sytems may be upgradeable up to a total of 256MB with 168-pin 3.3V DIMMs with tin-plated contacts. You can use only 60ns unrestricted CAS Latency 2 unbuffered 4-clock SDRAM DIMMs or 60ns buffered or unbuffered EDO DRAM DIMMs.
"Memory type, size and speed can vary between sockets; accordingly,
SDRAM and EDO DRAM can both be installed on the motherboard. However, please
note that SDRAM DIMMs with an nx4 DRAM base and parity DIMMs (x72) are
not supported by the system."
The Hard Drives on Packard Bell Systems are not uniform, each PB 790 motherboard can have a different size and manufacturer of the hard drives.
If you want more information I suggest you contact the individual manufacturer
of your hard drive.
