Privacy enhancement software for use with Internet Explorer and Netscape
Did you know that MS Internet Explorer maintains an array of files and databases on your machine which records not only your activities on the web, but also which messages in which news groups you read? Did you know that every single picture and screen you read on the web is also recorded? Did you know that your user ID can be retrieved from MS Internet Explorer without you even knowing it? Do you know what's in your "cookie" file? Once you've seen your "history database," you'll forget all about cookies. You may have missed the media attention to these security issues over the last several months in the trade papers, and if you HAVE read about it, now you can see what everyone was talking about. If you go all the way to the bottom of this page, there are a number of links to places where you can investigate these security issues at your leisure. Don't take our word for it - feel free to go and see for yourself. In corporate and governmental situations, computer crackers and maintenance technicians can conceivably discover sensitive internal documents and their locations on your network server from these files if they are able to physically access the machine. There is some esoteric discussion among security experts who feel it might even be possible to grab these files across the net through scripts from your browser but the author has seen no credible evidence to support these contentions. In school and library situations where public access is granted to the Internet at these locations, children could easily access inappropriate sites merely by looking at the computer screen left behind by the last person who used that particular machine.
Since many institutions lack the ability to monitor all use of their computers, placing IEclean in the start-up group of Windows can clean these files between sessions. The wealth of information left behind by web browser is a computer cracker's dream! Are you concerned that your boss and/or co. workers are riffling through your machine to see what you do on the net while at work? Would your family members approve of some of your visits if they can rummage through your machine? IEclean can wipe that data from your hard disk. Every time you visit an FTP site and logon to grab a download, your email address is surrendered by MS Internet Explorer to the host. It is used for so-called "anonymous" logins. The username "Anonymous" is sent, but your email address is sent as the password. Ever wonder where some of that junk email came from? Many web sites also grab your email address. Leaving it blank does no good, it is simply grabbed from your provider if it's missing. Not all providers can do this, but most of the larger ones do. Anyone who follows the frequent arrests of AOL users can attest to this. IEclean allows you to hide your identity with an alias name of your own choosing. IEclean also allows you to use your real name when you desire for email or posting to newsgroups so you can have your privacy when you want it and still be yourself when you want to receive replies to your post. Lots of information you probably wouldn't want anyone else to know about your habits and choices on the Internet are held on YOUR computer where any person with rudimentary computer skills (like computer technicians, your kids or your neighbour's kids) can read all about you and perhaps visit unsavoury sites with a simple text editor. . If you would like to see what MS Internet Explorer has hidden on your system, you can download a FREE demonstration of IEclean right now. The demonstration, called "IEcleand.zip" will show you the contents of the various files and databases. It will also tell you how to get a copy of IEclean32, which will remove this information if you desire. The IEclean32 product works reliably with Windows95/NT The IEclean32 product costs only 34.95 (UK) shipped directly to you by snail mail. The demo shows you what the IEclean program is all about, explains the files and databases you will be looking at, and details what all the concern is about. The demo is FREE. Ordering information is provided within the demonstration program. So GRAB a free copy and TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! "PLEASE FOLLOW LINK" For Internet Expl ftp://ftp.webtronix.co.uk/pub/ieclean/Win95&NT/ For Netscape ftp://ftp.webtronix.co.uk/pub/nsclean/Win95&NT/ IEclean licensing, warrantee and legal information Important: The IEclean32 product neutralises files kept on your machine. It also permits you to change your identity and these capabilities can do a great deal to enhance your privacy while online. IEclean CANNOT however stop "live" taps or monitoring if your connection is being watched. Any data that is monitored live can be used to identify you, at least by your provider. Therefore IEclean cannot protect you against your activities being monitored by your network provider or employer "live." Use of IEclean can at least minimise the amount of stored data that can be pulled from your machine or looked over at your physical location. Please read the information in the demo for details on what IEclean does. Licensing and other issues are also covered in the demo so you know all of the terms and conditions BEFORE purchasing the software. Don't believe there are privacy issues? Visit these: In version 3.0 of MS Internet Explorer , there is a provision to turn on warnings if you are about to be slipped a cookie. Under "Options," select "Network Preferences" and then click on the "protocols" tab. Click on the little square box so an X appears next to "warn on acceptance of a cookie" and then use MS Internet Explorer as usual.
Go visit prestigious magazines like www.pcworld.com or www.zdnet.com (Ziff-Davis) or if you really want to be hounded, go visit microsoft.com. You'll see that some sites just won't take "no" for an answer. This warning, like many others in web browsers, is defaulted to "don't let the user know" ... See how "cookies" work at the Centre for Democracy and Technology (CDT) and what they can determine about you. This site also shows how cgi, perl scripts and Javascript can turn up information about you that can surprise you. CDT is designed to make you aware of how this stuff works. They're not a scam. They are advocates for this issue and personal privacy in general. If you want to find out why there are cookies at all and what those who SEND cookies are telling their customers, we recommend a visit to "double-click sales info" or ".focalink sales info" or even "marketmatch" which is particularly proud of their ability to provide advertising based on "psychological profiles" of web users for their clients. Visit these cookie mongers and learn why "cookies" are a fantastic tool for "identifying specific customers." IEclean lets you wipe cookies so you can't be branded and tracked. Poof! Goes the problem. You can leave cookies enabled as you move from site to site to avoid the annoyance of clicking and clicking to move along and then wipe all traces when you're done so you are somebody else next time you visit. See how your posts to "newsgroups" are recorded and tracked by the Internet. Put in someone else's email address who writes to newsgroups and see THEIR info. You can read their long-distant posts in this huge database or you can go and look at a conglomeration of newsgroups they habitate. You can see what they are "into" by looking over the listings of newsgroups they post to. Finally for laughs and giggles, you can see how IEclean's "use alias" can foil this tracking. Put in "IEcleaned Alias" and see how you can't identify the author when an alias is used when posting to newsgroups. IEclean lets you put in any alias you'd like. Poof! goes the problem with IEclean. Then there's "switchboard" where you can look up people on the Internet and get their home address and phone number. Mitch Kapor of EFF has just started a new organisation which plans to rate the "privacy factor" of Internet sites. It is called "eTrust". From any of these links there are additional links to very informative discussions and demonstrations on the issue of privacy on the net that are worth looking at.. IEclean not only protects your privacy from your employer or family members, it can help to protect you from the snoopers out THERE as well. What are you waiting for? Grab the free demo and see what needs cleaning! "Don't forget" IEclean for Microsoft Explorer will be available within the next few weeks.
