Field service representative for the computer-based process control systems at several paper mill sites in Georgia and South Carolina. Duties included maintaining minicomputers, disk drives, video displays, printers, along with a wide assortment of precision instrumentation and measurement sensors.
As part of a six year enlistment in the Navy's Advanced Electronics Program, attended eighteen months of intensive electronic training. After finishing first in class, was assigned as an instructor at the Naval Electronic Warfare School for the next two years. The last thirty months of enlistment were spent aboard the frigate USS Truett. As Leading Petty Officer of the Electronics Division, responsibilities included the maintenance and repair of all shipboard electronic warfare systems, radar systems, and electronic test equipment. Also, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ship's closed circuit radio and television systems. Received Commander Sixth Fleet Letter of Commendation for "initiative, perseverance, and effective subordinate management." Honorably discharged at rate of E-6.
