Flexagons are a form of paper folding and are sometimes classified as origami. They are folded from a strip of squares and make a box. If you flex them, or fold them inside out, a new side appears. You can decorate them, and this actually is the main part. If you have a good deecoration on all the sides it looks cool and you can see the sides changing. There are many different kinds of flexagons including the hexa flexagon, tetraflexagon, and many others. The first one was the hexaflexagon. It was discovered in 1939 by Arthur Stone. He attended Princeton University and came from England. In England the paper sizes were larger so he cut off part of the paper. It left a strip and so he messed around for a few hours and discovered the flexagon. His fellow students discovered many new kinds of flexagons when Stone showed them his creation. if you want to know how to make a flexagon then go to my Links page and you can see templates for a flexagon on the links I have. |
