Suggestions and tips for the connection and configuration of the serial device.

This segment supposes certain experience on ports connections, properties configuration and edition of configuration files (.INI, .CFG, etc.).

All or part of the exposed here may not be applied or may not work perfectly on your system. No responsibility will be accepted by hardware and/or software flaws. The application of this technique will be at your own sense.

Connection example #1 (for one serial port PC)

Valid for Windows/Windows-DOS/DOS:

1 - Run the emulator or desired program.

2 - Disconnect the mouse (if it existed).

3 - Connect the Paddle.

If the device doesn't behave in a good way (near to the real Atari) it will be necessary to modify the mouse properties from the 'Control Panel' -> ' Mouse' (Windows) or through the mouse configuration utility (DOS).

After using the Paddle, it will be necessary to disconnect it, connect the mouse again and close the emulator to continue using normally the PC.

Connection example #2 (for two serial ports PC)

Valid for DOS/Windows-DOS:

0- Download and unzip this file GMOUSE.ZIP in some disk folder like 'C:\mouse \'. This driver is property of Genius, it was not developed specifically for this project, it is included here to facilitate the configuration of the device under DOS. You will be able to use your own DOS mouse driver to configure the Paddle.

1- Connect the Paddle to the second serial port (perhaps it is necessary to use an adapter like 'DB25(female)-DB9(male)' if the second serial port has a DB25(male) instead of DB9(male).

2- Load the mouse driver by typing 'C:\mouse\gmouse 2' (assuming COM2 as the second serial port)

3- Run the emulator o desired program under DOS.

If the device doesn't behave in a good way (near to the real Atari) it will be necessary to modify the mouse properties by editing the .INI file (easy to understand) which is included with the driver.

After using the Paddle, it won't be necessary to disconnect it; It is only necessary to remove the mouse driver with the sentence 'C:\mouse\gmouse U' or closing that DOS session. Notice: to use the Paddle again will be necessary to load the driver again.

Suggestion: (valid for both examples)

When configuring the values of the mouse, keep in mind that in the real Atari the Paddle doesn't has acceleration therefore for a faithful emulation is better to manage the values of sensibility and to leave the acceleration at 0. Note: It is possible that these parameters are not present in your configuration utility.
