Major Project Experience The following are some of the major projects I was associated with during my I.T career :
 
1. Integrated Software Solution for Peacock Hotel, Tanzania.
(a)  Hotel Management Application :
This application manages the Front Office activities of the hotel. It covers the Reservations, Registration (Check-in and Check-out), House Keeping , Night Auditing and System Administration Modules. The system also generates daily/monthly sales reports, daily occupancy rates report, daily guest ledger etc.

The Night Audit process posts financial entries related to the daily transactions to the Finance Database.

Development tools used : Visual Basic 6.0, HTML, ASP, VB Script, JavaScript, MS SQL Server 7.0, Visual Interdev and Crystal Report 

Hardware Platform : Client server technology. Server is Windows NT  and clients are Windows 95/98 PCs. 

(b) EPABX Application :
This application integrates the telephone billing into the Front Office application. The calls made by the guests are captured from the EPABX equipment by this application and sent to the Front Office Database to update the guest's telephone bills.

Development tools used : Visual Basic 6.0

Hardware Platform : Application is installed on one of the Windows 95/98 client PC to which the EPABX equipment is connected.

(b) Restaurant Management Software : 
This is a Point Of Sale (POS) application which manages the Floor activities of the Restaurants and Bars which are part of the hotel. 

The user makes Kitchen Orders(KOTs) and Bottle Orders(BOTs) which are printed in the respective kitchens.  The cashier generates bills and receives the settlements from the customers.

The ‘Day end’ routine is executed at the end of the day which will be posts the necessary Financial entries into the Financial database.

Development tools used : Visual Basic 6.0, MS SQL Server 7.0 and Crystal Report 7.0

Hardware Platform : Client server technology. Server is Windows NT and clients are Windows 95/98 POS machines with attached COM printer, Pole display and Cash drawer.

(d) Inventory Control Application :
This application manages the Purchase Order, Material Receipt, Costing, Stock transfer, Stock Adjustment and Recipe preparation. 
Once the Recipes are prepared it is uploaded to the Restaurant Management Application and will become available for sales.

This applications is linked with the Financial Accounting application as it posts Financial entries whenever relevant transactions take place.

It generates the Purchase reports, Costing sheets, Stock in hand, & Stock valuation reports , Item wise Profitability report etc.

(e) Financial Accounting Application :
This application manages the financial activities of the hotel. All other modules are linked to this application.

This application manages the Receipt and Payment Vouchers (Cash & Bank) , Journal Vouchers, Debit Notes and Credit Notes. It generates Accounts receivable reports, Accounts payable reports, General ledger reports, Trial balance , Balance sheet , Profit & Loss reports and some MIS reports.

Development tools used (both d & e) : Visual Basic 6.0, MS SQL Server 7.0 and Crystal Report 7.0

Hardware Platform : Client server technology. Server is Windows NT and clients are Windows 95/98 PCs.

2. Forex Trading Software for Central Exchange, Dubai, U.A.E
This application manages the day to day activities of a Money Exchange. At the counters the users perform the sales and purchase of foreign currency through the system. The related Financial entries are passed to the Financial Accounting module of the application. 

The Financial Accounting module is used by the Accounts department in the exchange house to perform their day to day accounting jobs. It includes Receipt and Payment Vouchers (Cash & Bank) , Journal Vouchers, Debit Notes and Credit Notes. 

The reports generated are; daily Sales and Purchase reports, Currency wise stock report, Cashier wise stock report, Currency wise gross profit report, Accounts receivable reports, Accounts payable reports, General ledger reports, Trial balance , Balance sheet , Profit & Loss reports and MIS reports.

Customization done : This application has been customized by me to provide Multi-cashiering, Demand Draft and Telex Transfer functionality. Multi-cashiering allows each cashier to keep an inventory of each currency individually and to generate cashier wise daily stock report.

The Demand Draft and Telex Transfer modules are integrated to facilitate these transactions on-line. The respective financial entries are passed automatically.

Development tools used : Visual Basic 6.0 as the front end , SQL Server 7.0 as the back end and Crystal Report 7.0

3. Financial Accounting & Inventory Control System for 
    Emke Group, Dubai, U.A.E
This is a full-fledged accounting application to manage the financial activities of one of the biggest trading group in the U.A.E. This application consists of the following 4 integrated modules :

(a)  Inventory Control  Module :
This module covers the Purchase Order, Material Receipt, Costing, Sales Order, Delivery Challan, Sales Invoice, Material transfer, Material adjustment etc. It generates the Purchase reports, Sales reports, Sales analysis reports, Stock in hand & Stock valuation reports etc.

(b)  Financial Accounting Module :
This module covers the Receipt Vouchers (Cash & Bank) , Payment Vouchers (Cash & Bank) , Journal Vouchers, Debit Notes and Credit Notes, Non Item purchases and sales. It generates Accounts receivable reports, Accounts payable reports, General ledger reports, Trial balance , Balance sheet , Profit & Loss reports and MIS reports.

(b)  Post Dated Cheques Module :
This module keeps track of depositing, clearing and dishonoring of the post dated cheques. It generates the Cheques in hand report, Cheques on maturity report, Dishonored cheques listing etc.

(c)  System Administration Module :
This module takes care of the security issues related to this application. It controls the user access to different modules and functionality of the system. Through this module the system administrator can create users and assign roles to them. It can generate audit report on any particular user to keep track of his /her activities.

Development tools used : Visual Foxpro 6.0 as the front end and Visual Foxpro Database.

Hardware Platform : Client server technology. Server is Novell NetWare and clients are Windows 95/98 PCs. Remote users are connected to the network through modem and pcAnywhere software.

4. Point of Sale (POS) Application for Benetton, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E
This application manages the show room sales operations. The application is installed on different Point of Sale (POS) machines. During sales, the scanner scans the bar code on each item and identifies the item code, season code, colour code and size. Accordingly the price is picked up from the database. The system allows the user to suspend a transaction in between and to resume at a later time. Different types of bill settlement options like Local currency, Foreign Currency, Credit Card, Customer A/c are provided.

The Transfer In/Out options allow the user transfer stock from one location (show room) to another whenever required. 
In addition, the system provides Supervisor and Manager functions such as creating new users, downloading PLU files, and day end process. The day end process generates files containing financial entries for that particular day.

The Accounts department in the head office (Dubai) connects to the POS terminal using modem and RAS software , the day end files are downloaded which are then used to update the accounts database.

The application generates reports like daily sales report, daily collection summary, salesman wise sales report, void transactions etc. 

Development tools used : Visual Foxpro 6.0 as the front end Visual Foxpro Database.

Hardware Platform : The application is installed on Windows 98 stand alone POS machine with attached COM Printer, Pole display, and Cash drawer.

5. Quotation tracking and Order processing system for 
    Al Jahili Group, Al Ain, U.A.E
This application has been developed to help the General trading division of the above group to keep track of quotations and offers from local as well as foreign suppliers for machinaries, equipment and spare parts.

Whenever there is an order or demand for any item, the user search the database for the best offer, the cost has been calculated accordingly, a quotation has been send to the customer. Once the customer approves the quotations the item is purchased and delivered to the customer.

The application handles all these activities and it generates the quotations listing, , comparative analysis of quotations, purchase reports, costing sheets,  sales reports, pending orders listing, executed orders listing, order wise profitability report, monthly profitability report, monthly consumption report etc.

Development tools used : Visual Basic 5.0 as the front end , MS Access  as the back end and Crystal Report

Hardware Platform : Client server technology. Server is Novell NetWare and clients are Windows 95 machines.
