Confederate
Memorial...
The Civil War may have ended in 1865, but vivid memories of the
"Lost Cause" lived on for decades at the Confederate Soldiers
Home of Missouri. Opened in 1891, the Confederate Home provided
refuge to more than 1,600 veterans and their families for nearly
60 years. After closing its doors in the 1950's the land became
a public memorial.
This is one of the few remaining buildings left
at the site. This church was built by the soliders who lived at
the home.
The Memorial dedicated in 1921 by Missouri Daughters
of the Confederation. To the left you can see the graves of close
to 800 men whom died at the home.
