Time Line for ucdm project

May 1992

o Auspex Meeting Dave Smith, Mike Hardy & John Row create a concept to merge file systems. based on translucent file system assumption: tfs worked, nfs should work

June 1992

o Limited VFS prototype created by Dave Smith no nfs support targeted to sun / auspex delivery to be December 1992 (6 months)

July 1992

o Waiting on delivery of Auspex Source Code Redirected to SGI & CRAY w/ delivery set to October (Fred McClain) Waiting for Chris Hall for testing / QA o Daemon work begins on IBM RS6000 - Vy

August/September 1992

o Mike Hardy draws up ucdm Requirements spec. o SGI arrives late o file handles, inode #s

October 1992

o Grumman misses delivery and slips date to January o Marketing demands we not keep inodes on disk

November 1992

o SGI disappears o CRAY port attempted, Peter o Testing assigned o Backup added, Vy o Dave Smith's vacation

December 1992

o Design Specification done by Dave Smith o SGI returns

January 1993

o 18th Cray port started o SGI port not finished o test plan in limbo o redesign of backup o no NSL unitree for testing

February 1993

o test plan finished tests began w/ Dave Caruso o thrashing of resouces between kernal & application development o Site visits w/ little cooperation and no NSL unitree o Sync feature added o generic tests running enough to show locking problems, & other errors. o Cray late night schedule begins

March 1993

o tests are finally in place with checklist o one or two runs complete okay o locking shows up in more places w/ stressing o 15th, no more waiting on NSL unitree 2 weeks there and only 1 day to see source; fight over access to root o 31st - beta release o NSL unitree - ftp interface errors
