Firebird's Song Part 2: Redemption

Blaise and Selina arrange to go to Cumberland falls. The elves are rating the above world, and at the moment, Budweiser. (they can change into human form) Selina and Blaise are walking along the side of Cumberland lake by moonlight. They talk romantically and eventually kiss. The scene switches to Sollath's summoning chambre, and a large rite is going on, eerie blue light pervading the chambre. In the center, slowly magik begins to gather, glowing brighter and brighter until it is finally stopped, and there is a faint glow where all the magik was, emanating from a blue sword there. Sollath takes the sword and hands it to Fenrir. He says, "This is you last chance. I do not tolerate failure well. With this sword of ice, you should be able to penetrate the Phoenix's scorching hide. Now go, whilst he is unaware, and attack him at Cumberland falls." "Yes." Sollath gestures and Fenrir disappears. The Scene cuts to Blaise and Selina with their arms around each other, sitting down by the lake, watching the moonbow. "This is really beautiful... I'm glad we came." "Not as beautiful as you." She giggles and they kiss again. The view changes from them slowly to the moonbow, and Blaise says, "What's that?" "What's what?" "That, blocking out the moonbow." "Oh.. that silhouette?" "Yeah... coming straight at us... oh geeze.. it's him again. Lil ol Fenrir."
It looks like Fenrir is about to fall on them and carve them apart, and Blaise looks around nervously. Thankfully, they're secluded, so he changes to Phoenix form, and tenses to counter Fenrir's next move. It is totally unexpected. Fenrir drops his sword and himself. He falls into a shallow portion of the lake, and gets back up barely. Blaise starts looking at Fenrir, wondering what is happening. The elves are beginning to sober up, but they're still in their cabin, totally oblivious. Selina scurries back to her and Blaise's cabin. Fenrir gets up, lurching, and Blaise makes out that he is looking upward. Fenrir lets loose an awesome howl. Then Fenrir begins to grow.. and grow... until he is nine feet tall. He walks over to Blaise, out of the lake, and is a very large humanoid wolf in Fenrir's armor. "Oh. You're a werewolf." "That is correct. Been a long time, Blaise." "Yeah..." "Since the Ecktros War." Blaise is silent. "You remember the Ecktros war, don't you? How in the middle of battle you fled, and because of it, Khad died? Because of you, all the devas died. You remember, don't you?" "I... do... look, Fenrir, it wa-" "SILENCE! You ran away and left us all to die." "But I-" "Shut up! I don't care about your explanations. Prepare to die." With that, Fenrir lunges at Blaise.
Fenrir and Blaise tumble around for awhile, and they seperate. Blaise is panting, whereas Fenrir seems relatively unharmed. "Whats the matter Blaise, SCARED?" "No... You don't understand, I-" "I DO understand! I understand that you are the sole cause of the Devas' deaths! You, the great fire general!" "No, I was ordere-" "You were ordered to stay there and fight. And you didn't. Because of it, they all died. Now you shall feel the same." Fenrir swipes at Blaise again. "No... Fenrir, please.." Fenrir attacks some more, saying "You want me to give up? That isn't how it works! You aren't going to run away this time!" "So's that why you teamed up with Sollath? Didn't you know what happened?" "I know he's not sane. I don't care. If it means your death, I shall do it." "Please no...." "Yes." They fight for a long time, Blaise getting soundly whipped. Eventually the elves appear and start fighting Fenrir. They knock him into the lake and as he's getting up, Blaise flies up a bit and starts an incantation. The elves recognize it as the Inferno Wing, but Blaise stalls in the middle, looking at Fenrir and sighing. After some encouragement from Artok, Blaise finsishes it and reluctantly sends the Inferno Wing flying at Fenrir. Fenrir is instantly engulfed in flames.
"No... it wasn't supposed to be this way... Fenrir was a good guy..." "And I still am. But are you?" "WHAT?!" The smoke and fire clears and you see Fenrir, totally unscathed. "I'm still a good guy. You aren't. You... Khad.... Scorch.. I can never forget that... I will never forgive you for it. NEVER!!!!!!" With that, Fenrir charges forward, throwing the elves to his side, and coming straight through to Blaise. Blaise starts flying backwards, but Fenrir is in a mad rage and jumps up, grabbing Blaise's wings and dragging him to the ground. He starts soundly beating him. "Shaco! Khad! Krult! Scorch! Grultuk! Their deaths are on your head! You deserve to die, you traitor. I don't care if Sollath takes over the world after this! Sollath coudl kill me for all I care! Your death is teh only thing I live for anymore, Phoenix!" At the end of that, Fenrir picks up Blaise by the head and pulls back his fist. Blaise is soundly whipped and there is nothing he can do.... armor torn, bleeding in several places, Blaise is about to be smashed into oblivion. (next episode now) Fenrir is still holding Blaise by the head. The elves are unconscious. Selina is hiding in her cabin. Fenrir starts talking - "Maybe you used to be good..... maybe. But... what HAPPENED to you, Blaise? You were one of our best and brightest! But.... forget it.. forget it.. I won't let you... I won't let you do that again... I won't let you live!" With that, Fenrir starts to swing, totally oblivious to the fact that Blaise has just completed his spell - the one to conceal the moon. Fenrir hits him, but as half-human. Still, Blaise goes through several trees and stops with a thud. The elves get up and beat the living snot out of Fenrir until Sollath appears and takes him away.
Blaise recuperates slowly. Even his healing flame couldn't heal the scars left on his heart from Fenrir. Selina asks him when back at the apartment what happened with the Ecktros War. He snaps back, "Everyone died and it's all my fault! It was a massacre, alright? Now leave me alone..." Selina doesn't believe this is the true story.. she can't believe it.. the man she's falling for.. ran away, and let everyone die? They fight over it a lot, and Selina, in a fury, packs up and moves out. Blaise is left there angrily playing his favorite video game, Quake Nukem 68... through tears. Havir goes to protect Selina, and the other two stay with Blaise, seeing as how he is more likely to be attacked. Blaise is thankful to get Havir out anyways... he kept beating him at Quake Nukem. Havir counsels Selina, but unsuccesfully.... the rift just grows.. Selina can't handle him being a murderer.
Blaise is rained upon more than ever now by Sollath's troops. There are so many and so much property damage that he flame-suicides again and moves to the country with the 2 elves. He faces legion after legion after legion of troops.. by the end of two weeks he lives on a scorched land, burnt to a crisp. Craters abound, and there are bits of armor and weapons here and there. The elves and Blaise are having a meal of some sort. Blaise says, "Geeze, there's just no end to these guys!" Artok agrees, "Indeed there is no end. Sollath was our best mage, and we drow are not of any small skill. Sollath is either getting these guys from another dimension..", and at the mention of that Blaise shudders quietly, "..or he's creating them himself. He would be able to, he's powerful enough." "Well that sucks." "I suppose so, in the upper world, it would.... suck." "Well anyways, how are the magic wards handling?" Imas, who was all this time looking out the window, says, "Come and see." Blaise slowly walks to the open door with his coffee and looks out to see lots of orcs and trolls and the like dancing with each other. Some orcs, seemingly not under the spell, are just kinda standing there in abghast horror. There are lots of shrieks in the background. "That is one sick spell Blaise." "Yep, but it's holding up pretty well." He sits back down at the table. "But I wonder.. why hasn't he hit us with any of the big guns? Is Fenrir his only trick? I mean, any halfway serious guy could break through that spell like that!" With saying the word 'that', Blaise snaps. The shrieking stops. "Blaise, you better come look at this." Blaise gets up whining and says, "What now?" He looks out the window and wakes up. "Oh."

Outside the farm at the perimeter of the shield, a large impressive-looking Ogre is talking to a small squattish goblin in tattered robes. The Goblin gestures and the Ogre's hands start to shimmer. He touches the barrier and the barrier starts glwing, but the Ogre digs in, making a small hole, which gets larger, until finally the entire barrier goes. The goblins and orcs all grin and start to run forward. Blaise yawns. The Ogre steps on a small piece of land and it starts to glow. Before they know it, a circle of runes has appeared all around the entire group of bad guys. The entire group stops as someone tries to run outside of the circle and gets smacked up against an invisible force shield. The goblin wizard looks down at the runes quickly and yells something in goblin. The goblins and company are instantly buried under 5 tons of flaming cattle. Imas turns to Blaise and says, "What kind of spell WAS that?!". Blaise sips his coffee and responds, "That was a genie circle. Whenever anybody steps in it, they are surrounded, and the next word they say is what they get." "He asked for flaming cattle?" "No, you see, I invoked a very cynical genie on that circle for it to probably be deadly. The wizard realized that and yelled a goblin swear word which translates out to 'Flaming Cattle'." "You're weird, Blaise." "Yeah, but I knew that. Now go out and clean up the cattle, and Havir, you reconstruct the Foxtrot gate. I'm gonna finish my coffee." "Yes sir." "Uhm.. Blaise", Havir asks. "Yeah Havir?", Blaise responds through gulps. "I've been reading this spell grimoire and I think I may know why Sollath isn't sending anybody big at us." "Oh? Why?" "Well, this spell here is called the Rogan-Pter. It translates in Drow to something like the Eternal Night." "WHAT?!" Blaise rushes over. "The Rogan-Pter is of legend.. it is supposed to make the sky black as night for all eternity." "Which means.." "Full Moon, yes." "Damn." "There's still hope, Blaise." "What?" "He needs some very rare ingredients for this spell, some of which are not even on this earth anymore." "Trust me, if they ever existed, he'll have em." "Would he have the Hope Diamond?" "Huh?" "There are only 3 ingredients which he would not have. The Hope Diamond, which in olden times was in Drow possession and called Ya-shin, which means 'little sun'." "What else?" "He needs the Philosopher's Stone, which belonged to Merlin." "So THAT'S what was dangling from his neck.. no wonder he's so powerful." "What?" "Last time we tangled, I noticed he had something dangling from his neck. He's already got that. What's the last one?" "Mithril." "Mithril, the elven silver?" "Yes.. rare even in Atlantis... although it was not known long ago, Mithril is not in fact silver or even mineable." "It isn't?" "No, it isn't even a metal." "What is it?" "Moon rocks." "You're kidding." "Nope." "Oh.. well how's he gonna get one of THOSE?!" "I don't know" Just then the swordsman busts in the door. "Hey guys! You'll never guess what I heard on the radio just now! Somebody broke into NASA to steal, can you get this - MOON ROCKS!" He starts laughing really hard. "Can you believe that?! Moon rocks! Ahahahahahahahaha ha ha ...ha...ha..ha? Guys, why aren't you laughing?"
Blaise, Imas and Havir rush to the old eccentric who holds the hope diamond... Sollath Fenrir, and many of his cronies are already there. They fight for a long time at a near-standstill... Fenrir barely attacks at all, whereas Sollath augments his troops. Fenrir takes out the old guys defenses. Eventually the old guy comes out - in magical plate mail. This is no old guy. This is obviously not human.. it's almost dragon-shaped, but nobdoy can see any skin under the plate mail. He takes out his sword and it starts to glow. The facade of a house disappears and it becomes apparent that this old man is no old man at all, and that his house was MADE to protect the Hope diamond. He starts attacking Sollath. He slays many orcs, and much to Blaise's delight.. does not turn on him. |
Sollath obviously is taken by surprise, but then lowers his eyes and says, "I know who you are. You knew I was coming, didn't you, and wanted to protect your treasure, didn't you?" "Indeed." "Well I had prepared, oh sagacious one.." Sollath grins and throws down a small gem. Out springs forth several glowing tentacles. "I'd like to see you get out of that, All-Father, I made it just for you." The armor ceased movement. It lurched to a halt. Blaise and the others wonder what happened, but then run to the armor and start trying to free it. "Ah ah ah, can't have that now can we?" At Sollaths snapping, all the orcs charge, Midgard rips up the floor to let out many subterranean creatures, and Sollath opens up a portal to let out MANY creatures from another dimension. Blaise yells "DAMN! We can't free him, there are just too goddamn many! We're gonna have to kill them!!" Blaise, Imas, and Havir fight like falling stars and slaughter orc after orc after orc, but Sollath keeps them coming. Fenrir keeps walking down a hall and eventually makes his way to the Hope Diamond. A giant dragon named Draykhon is sitting there, curled around it. Fenrir looks up... "shit.". So after battling for hours, Fenrir scratches up Draykhon quite a bit and Draykhon does vice-versa. However, in a good strategic move, Fenrir causes his sword to glow very brightly and momentarily blind the dragon, enough for him to barely dodge the dragon and get the Hope Diamond. However, Draykhon regains her sight and smacks Fenrir with her tail. Fenrir is quite severely damaged. Sollath finally runs out of monsters, but Blaise is still busy fighting them off. Sollath runs off and teleports Fenrir out of there, with the Hope Diamond. The party cuts loose the armored figure and it teleports them back to Selina's apartment. When they go back the next day, the mansion is gone. They never find out who it was.
Blaise, back in Selina's apartment, reconciled with Selina. "I did it, yes... but it was for a good cause.. but I can't tell anyone, because if they did, their hopes.. would plummet. Just like mine." "What are you talking about?" "The Ecktros War was a war for the survival of earth. We faced a dimension warped and opposite of ours, and we had to face all our fears.. all the things directly opposite of us... we had to fight, and not go vanishing into the night." "So you were scared." "YES I was scared!" "How can you DARE say tha-" "Hold it. Yes, I was scared.. but so was everything. We fought NIGHTMARES. The very epitomes of our fears. But we still fought, even I." "But you fled, you couldn't handl-" "WRONG! I never fled.. the Ecktros War had some deeper goings-on than anybody had thought. I stumbled on to these near the end, and played an important, althobeit minor part, in this drama." "So why didn't you tell anyone?" "They wouldn't believe me. If they did, which is very unlikely, they would lose all hope in our species." "Well can't you tell me? This was years ago..." "You would not accept it. You would not understand. This has to do with warrior's honor, olden battles. A modern-day pacifist nun would not understand. Sorry." "So I have to take it on faith that you did the right thing?" "Yes." "I, a nun.. taking things on faith." "Impossible!" "I can't. Too many people have assaulted you because of it. Fenrir, Midgard, Pendres.. " "Well then you cannot." "I'm sorry...so sorry.." "the final battle draws near, Selina.. you mean a lot to me..." "...." "I don't care if you don't believe me... just don't join them. Don't let them take you to their side. You are my one weakness... because I love you." "How do I know you're not lying about that?" "Some things.. have to be taken on faith." "I've lost my faith." "Bad thing, for your profession." Blaise gathers up the Elves and they walk out of the apartment... and Selina starts to cry.
Blaise and the Elves are walking around town, and are suddenly mugged and brouht into an alley. Blaise tries slight magic, but it fails. He doesn't know why until one of the thugs says, "Our employer would like to speak with you...", and the armored figure steps out from the darkness. "Who ARE you?!", Blaise yells. "I am not important, however, I want to know who are YOU, Blaise? The Devas died, Blaise... was it your fault?" "NOOOO!!!!" "Indeed. However, that is not my concern at the moment." Imas asks, "then what is? Why did you bring us here?" "Because I need a job performed and you are in my debt." Havir snaps, "We ain't in nobody's debt, man!" "Indeed." The armored figure snaps and a shimmering image appears of the Hope Diamond. "This item has been taken from me and I require it back." Havir snaps, "So? We tried the best we could!" "That was not good enough. It was stolen, and my guards were injured." "There weren't no guards there! We beat Sollath bad! we killed all his little buddies, and he ran away!" "Did you defeat Fenrir?" "He was there?" "Yes, and he eluded you all and gained possession of the Hope Diamond." Artok syas, "So he was just stalling, throwing everything he had at us to slow us down." "Yes. And now he has precious little troops, he is weary, Fenrir was injured. It is the perfect time to strike." "SO why do we have to do this for you?" "Because I know everything. If I so wished, I could have any one of 230 orbital lasers strike you at any moment with pinpoint accuracy." "That technology doesn't exist yet!" "Doesn't it?" "Well somebody would notice." "Would they?" Blaise finally speaks up, "How do we know you aren't one of the bad guys? You come here, mug us, threaten our lives, and make us do this little task for you!" "Some things you have to take on faith." Blaise recoils. "You and Miss Selina having a small spat, I know." "You..." "I would not suggest that, Mr. Blaise. I am not the condescending god I appear to be. My motives are secret for a reason. Humanity needs a power behind everything to keep them happy." "A power on.. a.. throne?" "Yes, Mr. Blaise." "Take off your mask." "I'm afraid I cannot do that." "Then let me see your hand. Take it out of the shadows. Glove on." The armored figure take his hand out of the shadows and puts it in the light. t has 3 fingers and a thumb... all strangely pointed. Around one section the glove bulges a little, siggesting a ring of some sort underneath. Blaise sees this and immediately bows. "We will serve you, my liege." "ExQUEEZE me Blaise? Did something on his hand just screw your mind into bad-guy mode?", Havir snaps. "Hold it Havir..", Artok says softly. Artok looks at the hand slightly and says, "..that's the Ring of Lords, isn't it?" "Is it now, Artok of Atlantis?" "It is, isn't it? But the last time it was seen was...", and all the thugs and the armored figure instantly disappear, "..over 1000 years ago."
While all this happens, Selina sits in her apartment. From teh shadows comes Fenrir, in human form, armor and all. She jumps up and holds out a cross to him. He just stands there eyeing her over. "You have no faith anymore, it does not work. Not that it would do much anyways, I am not vampire." "What the hell are you.. stay away..." "I am Fenrir, the Dark Wolf." With that, he pats his chest military-style. "You work... for that guy, don't you? That elf guy.. the one that's after Blaise?" "You could say that, I suppose. I don't exactly work FOR him, it's more like we both have a mutual goal and I further his work." "Whats your goal?" "Blaise's death." He takes a bite out of an apple lying around, and Selina collapses a bit onto the couch, staring down and forward, and she drops the cross. "Its all about that Ecktros thingy, isn't it?" "Indeed." "What happened there?! Blaise refused to tell me.." "As he would. In olden times, at 1000 AD, there was a great opening to another dimension. Out poured many horrible creatures which scared us all. However, to pull us together, there were 5 devas, who oversaw the armies. Blaise was a general under the Phoenix Deva, Scorch. When she and the Deva I was under, Khad, disapperaed, he went out to look for them. He ran far, far away from the battlefield and hid himself carefully. Our mages could not find him on this planet. Without him, and with Khad and Scorch gone.. there was nobody to lead the Phoenix or human armies. He was supposed to report back and tell if he saw Khad and Scorch, tell us how many enemy there were, and where. We NEEDED that information. But he fled, and we were massacred. We found out later that Khad and Scorch had made a preemptive attack on the enemy in their dimension. we found a letter in Blaise's room later that told him to have the human and phoenix armies follow them later, once they had lowered the gates, and to bring the other Devas and armies as well. He is a coward. He fled, and we were doomed to die. All the devas died in that battle thanks to him." "So why are you here?" "Sollath was a fellow general of mine in the armies, under the Drow Deva. He knows Blaise's weakness to women. We want you to help us." "You are asking me... to help you..." "To join us in fact." "But you have endangered my LIFE before!" "And for that we are truly sorry." "But..." "This man is responsible for the slaughter of many of my people and others. He needs to be brought to justice. We only ask you to do the right thing." "What would I do?" "Sollath would likely use you as bait for a trap." "WHAT?!" "It is the way he works. I can assure you no harm." "But what if Blaise is what you say he is... then won't he try and kill me?" "Does he love you?" "......I.....I....i don't know... he said he did but..." "You should do this for the sake of humanity." "What?!" "He is a danger, and has already wiped out many orcs who wanted nothing more than to help humanity, their long-time friends." "You're asking me to risk my life for something that might not work?" "Yes." "You're asking me to be a martyr?" "It is the warrior's honor." "Blaise was right.. I don't understand this warrior's honor of yours. I'm a pacifist! I'm a nun! I can't understand this, and I won't do it!" "And when he comes to you next? Once he attacks us, and he might win, he will come to you, asking your hand in marriage, most likely. What will you say then? He is a dangerous man, do not forget that. Everyone has to give their lives sometime... whether you give your life to stop him or give your life to him in marriage is your choice. Good day." Fenrir fades into the shadows and Selina runs off to the church in tears.

Part Three. 1
