Ravings about Slayers


I'm a nut about anime. I have been ever since I first saw Ranma 1/2. However, I was never obsessive - never an otaku... until Slayers came along. Slayers, to me, is the best anime out there. It is funny, the characters are great, the plotline is wonderful, and the animation, while crappy at some points, is wonderful.
I'm a possessive kinda guy. I can't help it if I think of Slayers as my baby. I'm very protective of it, as well as anime in general. It's why whenever there's a bad review of it, I'm there, retorting it. If there's a guy saying it sucks, I'm there, kicking his ass. If there's somebody who hasn't seen it yet, I'm loaning out my tapes yet again.
And if there's somebody writing fanfics badly about it, I'm there to help.
I'm a big guy on language. I LOOOVE writing. One of my fave things to do in the whole world. I'm one of those people who actually knows the right spelling to praesydimiosis, and will correct you if you use bad grammar. So bad writing kinda bugs me. Bad fanfics really bug me. And bad SLAYERS fanfics.. well... send me on a psycho rampage.
Some fanfics, to my opinion, are just BAD. Some try to make Slayers a romantic story, hooking up Lina and Gourry, Zelgadiss and a [mystery] author... SLAYERS ISN'T ABOUT ROMANCE! Rui admitted it himself : he's BAD at writing romance! So he doesn't!

Fans do not have the authority, the power, the RIGHT to change characters around the way they see them. So, I wanted to keep them pure, the way Rui wrote 'em. I admit, even I have transgressed and tried to change em around a bit.. tried to define what Xelloss's true objective was. But I tried to make it TRULY Slayers-ish... a story that really COULD happen. I was so embarassed to do something that actually CHANGED the Slayers world that I went around to all my friends who have seen Slayers and asked them whether they could see it happening. Once they agreed, I went ahead and put it on the web. And I think it's a good story. : )
Slayers has pushed the limits of my creativity.. made me create some things that are WILDLY imaginative and wonderful.. Slayers is almost entirely behind the creation of my own anime, Legacy of the Golden City. (picture of one of the chars to the right) Slayers is something that everyone should be able to enjoy if they'd just let themselves go. It's something everyone SHOULD enjoy. And thanks to some generous fansubbers and Software Sculptors, it's something everyone CAN enjoy. Thank you all for making Slayers accessible to me, a silly American scruncher. : )
