The Growing Trend of Malnutrition

A sufficient household income brings up a decent food on the table, well balanced in nutrition which supplies the nutritional needs of the whole family. Since to subsist is to survive , meaning to continue existing to whatever available resources at hand, proper nourishment can only be attained and equated from sufficiency. With poverty and insufficiency of needs on each filipino family, malnourishment has struck the country, more so the children and the newly born. Filipinos were tagged as the "Sick Man of Asia" by its asian neighbours and the western world alike. Let's see the actual press releas from a local manila paper:

Malnutrition Growing on Newly Born
By: Malou Rongalerios
"Malnourished babies will surely multiply if the government will not focus its resources on the issue. With the growing problem of malnutrition which brings about intellectually and physically underdeveloped babie's, and other physical defects as goiter and anemia. It was also researched that approximately a million filipino babies have been suffering from "protein energy malnutrition" These infants were born insufficient in weight and size compared to other healthy ones. It was also noted that most of these newly born females are suffering from anemia and goiter".

With poverty and economic turmoil in the country, a common household cannot afford to enjoy sufficient nutrition for the growing kids. Since most of the filipino families live below poverty line, majority of our people cannot afford to enjoy the same nutrition as the western world does. This results to poor athletics. Evidently, filipino athletes cannot fare up with its neighboring asian countries and the west. Not even a single Olympic gold has any filipino athlete brought home on any event. This is mainly due to improper nutrition which started from early childhood of a common filipino. Support for its national athletes is also below par. Vitamin supplements and modern performance enhancement drugs that are readily available to the west are way in-accessible to our local athletes because of economic reasons. The result? Poor performance and dwindling participation from the people.
