Poverty and Progress

Poverty affects the country wholly. It restricts the rise of technological growth, as a healthy economy is a pre-requisite to technological advancement. Just as a household to be able to purchase and enjoy what modern science has to offer with sufficient income. e.g. decent home, computers, phone, television sets and other things that helps to educate the growing kids. With the advances of science and technology throughout the world, these things that used to be luxuries, in reality are now basic necessities on every household. However in the Philippines these things are still far accessible to a common family.
The United States with its wealth and rich natural resources has all the freedom to spend money on research and development. The armed forces is way too advance, equipped with the most modern weaponry, because of the states economy which works hand in hand with its own politicians and capitlist and is used as a tool to preserve its foreign economic interest on every part of the world. With its endless reasearch on science and technology, the United States keeps on moving onwards. Continous research goes on which can only be done with sufficient financial support. An economic giant like the U.S. and its vision of expansionism which started after its turbulent civil war, has invested from then and now is reaping the fruits of its capital as can be seen with the good life itis people is enjoying now. With its military might, the United States can impose its will on any country that opposes its financial interest on any region globally, with its CIA, the United States can destabilize any government that would endanger its interests. These were evidently true with the Shah of Iran,
the staged coup de etat in Guatemala, The Cuban Bay of Pigs, The CIA's involvement the Russian-Afgan war, the Iran-Iraq war etc.
In athletics, with its vast wealth, national players are well fed and trained. Financial support is sufficiently tended to meet their every needs. Resulting in excellence. We have seen how American athletes outnumber most countries on the Olympic gold hunt on most events. Athletes are funded for their training from childhood up until they become the best in their event.
As we can see poverty affects the the country wholly same as wealth would affect alternately. To have a mighty Armed forces, we need to have a booming economy etc. But economic progress should start within the household first. Once a life with human dignity is bestowed upon the filipino people the rest will fall into its place like a square peg on a square hole. Once the standard of living is elevated upon every filipino family no matter what political ideology we adapt, the wealth of the country spread among our people, once the life of every filipino family does not subsist to survive, only then we can fold our arms with philosophical content.
