Ok. I find myself
eating my words. Way down the page you'll notice me throwing off
on
World of WarCraft, but here I
am playing in the beta version of the game. It's not so bad.
All of the classes aren't open for play yet, but it's really promising.
The world has a lot of life to it. A rabbit goes hopping by only
to stop and scratch its ear.
Well, it's a good night to watch some TV. SpikeTV's MXC is running
a special tonight for its new season. MXC is a tongue-in-cheek
spoof on a Japanese gameshow. Most of the fun comes from how it
has been dubbed into english.

There are some pretty nice
free anti-virus programs out there.
AVG Anti-virus seems to be the best
of the bunch. I also used Solo
to clean that computer from the other day. It's not free, but the
30-day trial is impressive to say the least.

There's definitely
something to be said about having an anti-virus program installed.
I worked on one computer today that had Notepad, Outlook Express, and
Internet Explorer infected. Talk about annoying.
Evidently it's not so easy to update my site, and it almost seems like a
yearly thing.

I kept getting that
annoying "Runtime error: do you wish to debug line XX?" in IE, but
luckily I found out how to disable it at
Annoyances.org (aptly named).
The link to the fix is
here.
Pretty neat site with all sorts of useful info for anyone who uses
Windows 95 to XP and has been inevitably annoyed. They even have
some pretty good
jokes
aimed mostly at Microsoft.

Well, another new year.
Happy New Year, by the way. After all the fuss about the new
millennium, 2003 seemed to just sneak right up on me. This one
definitely didn't get a lot of TV coverage. Dick Clark seemed a
bit camera shy this year for some reason.

Had a coupon to see The Two
Towers for free that came with the Fellowship of the Rings dvd set, and
it had to be used before the end of the year, so I ended up using it as
close to the deadline as you possibly can. I liked the movie, but
I'll try not to spoil it for anyone. I had a lot more action than
the previous movie, but if you had read the books then you were
expecting that.

Picked up
Battlefield 1942 for Christmas. It's a very cool game along
the lines of TFC, but it puts you in command of some authentic weapons
from WWII. The ability to hop into a vehicle with someone who is
driving and man the machine gun is pretty nice. Hard as heck to
fly a plane though.

I reviewed a couple of
games for
CV-Games over the last couple of
weeks, but most of my time has been taken up with the
Eastern Sun mod for
Diablo II. Right off the bat in the
mod you are thrown into some serious heat. The difficulty has been
ramped up to simulate a 4-player game.

Almost won 1,000 smackers on
iWon
today. Actually, that's not a real big deal. It seems like I
almost win something every day. It's amazing how much of a
difference that there is between "almost won" and "did win".

Played a bit of
TFC on the TALOS
server. They've got some pretty good members, although I'm not
sure why Smurf kept blowing himself to bits. Their sniper almost
seemed too good, but I'm a bit rusty for any rash judgments.
Just can't find the time to play as much as I would like any more, but
that's alright. Funny how there's some decent, new games out there,
but I end up coming back to Half-Life and Diablo2exp. Maybe Team
Fortress 2 will come out one of these days, or Blizzard will make
something to follow in the footsteps of D2 -- not necessarily Diablo3,
but something with a similar feel. They took WarCraft and created
StarCraft; basically the same game with more bells and whistles set in a
sci-fi universe instead of fantasy.
World of WarCraft looks neat,
but it's not really my cup of tea. Who wants to play a game that
you have to devote half your life to?

I've been piddling with some Javascript again today.
Really makes me wish that I could code a lot better, but maybe enough
piddling will end up bearing some kind of fruit.
The band Survivor
might not have had a lot of hits, but their main Rocky songs are still
pretty darn good. I might just be saying that since I end up
hearing the same pop songs over and over every day, but good is good.
