Requires Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0. Sorry folks, Java version will be
available later if you will tell me that you need it.
Okay, it might be what you GeoCities homesteaders folks dreamed
about. This utility automates updating your GeoCities' page according
to your copy of it at your local drive. It assumes that you have
a directory with exactly same files set as in your site. Then,
GeoSend utility will keep track of file changes and send
them automatically via GeoCities ftp link. All you need is to
specify your folder with your page(s) file(s) and GeoCities name
and password.
You can use it for any ftp transfer, although it is now tuned for
GeoCities.
Take note: I needn't your password, but you need it to send files.
GeoSend utility stores your password in the local computer registry
and never uses it otherwise than to establish connection with
GeoCities ftp service.
How it works? Very easy. It looks for changed files and shows
you differences list. It's time to press "Send" button
to send changed files to GeoCities automatically. If some files
no longer exist you'll find them in the list "to be deleted".
Sorry, GeoCities administration don't notice my technical questions
so I can't automate file deletions too. Write them and tell them
that they're wrong ;).
GeoSend utility shows you summary about files to be send (and total size),
and list of files you have to delete manually (sorry guys deletion not implemented
yet because of lack of info from GS' staff). Press "Details" button and look what will
happen :).
If you changed something in your source folder -- press Rescan button and GeoSend will
keep track of your changes. Whenever you are sure that your GeoCities version is truly
the same, press "Set as Up to Date" to tell it to the utility.
There is a few step to install this utility:
That's all. Now start GeoSend (or press rescan if it is active) after
making changes and send changed stuff automatically. Have fun.
This
utility I wrote once for my own convenience and still using it for several
months. I didn't find yet any major bugs, although I never made special
tests. I'd like to hear from you your ideas, impressions and bug reports, and
just to hear that you use it... Drop a line to
sergeych@earthling.net. If there will be a lot of users of it I will
make new improved versions according to your wishes, so tell your friends to
try it.
