ICoN - Internet Chess on Nexus
For Students and Teachers across Australia
What is ICoN?
ICoN is a revolutionary way to play and learn chess across the Internet. The games
are played in real time between students anywhere in Australia using computers. It is
Inexpensive and wonderful fun.
Students can play super fast or super slow games - anything from 1 minute (bullet), through
to standard 5 minute ganes or even serious 2 hour games - the choice is theirs. And they
can get a rating after just 6 games.
Students make all their moves using a mouse on the screen thanks to the free chess
interface program. They can't make illegal moves and ICoN keeps track of the game.
It will tell them when it's a checkmate, and a draw, and when the opponent has ran out
of time.
ICoN is set to change the Australian chessboard - it will soon be played by students
everywhere, from Atherton to Zeehan.
What do I need to use ICoN
You only need a MS-DOS or Macintosh computer and a modem - even a slow 2400 BPS is fine)
There is no disadvantage by distance, language, gender, age or disability. Ideal for any contry
students who cannot find an opponent or want chess lessons.
Teachers need only know how to make the connection ( just the press of a button) and how to
move pieces - the program and the chess Admins will help with the rest

How do I join ICoN?
Joining ICoN is easy. All you need to do is to either E-Mail with your full name,
your phone number, the name you want to go by there, and a inital password.

Or ring Alan Goldsmith or Jason Elliott at Nexus on (08) 262 7751 during office hours
Once you have registered you will need a Chess Interface for ICoN.
