Telnet BBS!
Just like the WWW is the graphical part of Internet, Telnet is the part that contains the text in Internet. Telnet is a part of internet which is not too famous because the WWW, FTP and IRC are the most used ones. Telnet has a lot of uses, one of them is the recreational BBS (Bulletin Board Service).
In this BBS one can talk and find many people. The telnet BBS are like the IRC in the "CHAT" aspect, but, in a difference from IRC, they contain "TALK", "MAILS" (which are inside the BBS), and forums in which one can post and read all the messages he or she wants.
There are many programs for telnet, examples of this ones are for Windows or Windows 95: Win_qvt/net in 16-bit or 32-bit versions; for the Macintosh there is the NCSA Telnet For the Macintosh.
Some Mexican BBS
In every BBS one has to have an account which is given to any user. In some cases it is necessary to send an e-mail to some address with the user's information. In others it is necessary to fill out a form with the user's information on-line with the BBS. In the majority of the BBS you are told if your account request was accepted or not with an e-mail, in the other minority the account is accepted immediately without verifying the user's information.
There are some BBS that don't have a "fair game" set of rules. This telnet operators (SysOps) do not have the absolute idea of what "fair game" means. Examples of this BBS are SINet BBS which mocks Asimov BBS. There are also some BBS which don't know how to control their users, examples of this BBS is Hal-9000 BBS which doesn't have a too-good-of-a-chat option!
