ANSWER TO UNTITLED POEM

I LEFT YOU AT SUNSET
MY FACE STREAKED IN TEARS
I LEFT YOU WITH THIS FEELING
OF JOY MIXED WITH FEAR

I WAITED FOR TWILIGHT
THEN TRIED TO STARE AFAR
I LOOKED AT THE LUMINOUS SKY
AND WISHED HER NAME UPON A STAR

AND PATENTLY I WAITED
WILLING FOR HER TO STAY
BUT FROM THE SKY CAME NO REPLY
AS I TURNED TO FACE THE COMMING DAY

I TOOK A STROLL AROUND THE BEACH
PAIN NIBBLING IN MY HEART
I LOOKED UP AND SAW HER FACE
AND MY BEING WAS TORN APART

SHE LOVED SOMEBODY ELSE
SOMEONE THAT ISN'T ME
BUT EVEN THOUGH THIS I KNOW
MY HEART CAN'T SET HER FREE

I TOLD HER HOW MUCH I LOVE HER
I TOLD HER THAT I CARE
BUT WHY WOULDN'T SHE LISTEN
THE PAIN WAS TOO MUCH TO BEAR

SHE HAD LEFT WITH ANOTHER
SOMEONE I DIDN'T KNOW
AND FROM THE LOOK IN HER EYES
I SAW SHE LOVED HIM SO

THE WOUND DID HURT, AND YES, IT WAS DEEP
BUT THEN SOME THINGS I STARTED TO SEE
I TOO COULD LOVE SOMEBODY ELSE
MY HEART HAD SET HER FREE

I LOOKED UP ONCE AGAIN
AND SAW A FACE THAT'S NEW
I REMEMBERED IT AS THE GIRL
WHO STOOD THERE WHEN I WAS BLUE

MY FACE LIT UP, AND I COULDN'T HELP BUT SMILE
WHEN I FELT SOMETHING NEW INSIDE
I THEN REMEMBERED YOUR ADVICE
AS I LOOKED UP WITH GRATEFUL EYES

I SAW IT SHINNING
AS I TRIED TO STARE AFAR
LOOKING AT THE LUMINOUS SKY
AND WISHED A NAME UPON THE STAR

DAWN HAS PASSED, SUNRISE HAD COME
I RAN TOP YOU IN TEARS
I HELD YOUR HAND AND TOLD YOU THAT
FROM NOW ON, I'LL ALWAYS BE NEAR
