Little story of BBS ITA490

The BBS ITA490 born in August 1995 after 1 month of test and experiments with my MFJ1278 and a lot of software. After a lot of attempts, finally, I improved the quality of my packet activity thanks to ITA419 too. I signed up to PrG (Packet Radio Group) and received the FBB 5.15c from ITA000, so I had a real multilanguage and multiport BBS. The time passed, and a lot of things happened: the italian CB NET became bigger and I knew a lot of friends (ITA335, ITA419, ITA219, ITA368, I3VICE, IT3ROB, ITA301 and many many others), born and died a lot of nodes (ITA3BU, FLT, LINK); in the same time PrG and IPN clashed cause of stupid problems...and finally the Italian Packet Net became two different, little nets...I remained in to PrG, but I didn't share neither PrG position nor IPN position...So I tried to improve the local activity in my city, Trieste. The BBS, so, started to work in two different QRGs: CH 34 (27.345) FM and FWD QRG. The idea was good and arrived a lot of new local users: the dear old IT3MAN (Manuel) friend for a lot of adventures, IT3STE (Stefano), IT3ENR (Enrico) with whom I make the first local FBB-TST Unproto,IT3FED (Federico) and IT3FOX (Andrea), two great students, IT3GIO (Giovanni) the local node for some time, IT3ZZ1, IT3AND...In the meantime the BBS ITA490 become bigger, change antennas and software settings, etc. A new BPQ node is installed now and with my big friend ITA335 we are trying to create a north italian nodes net...But the italian net is falling down. A lot of people try to create a BBS without success. A lot of link are born and died in a few days. I3VICE and ITA335 switch off their BBS, so the Friuli Venezia Giulia is alone, without any forward service. I can't establish a connection nor with ITA586 neither with ITA514, so I decide to establish a new internet FWD lik with IT1SPE. Trieste is again connected to the rest of Italian net. After a few days ITA514 sends me an E-Mail telling that they have a new internet connection soI could open a new internet FWD link with them too. The FWD have been continuing for a little period, after a few weeks the PC of ITA514 breaks down and the FWD stops. We are in '99 Spring. The Big question in this period is: "HTML Bulletins: an independent route?". The war is between @ITAHTM and HTM@ITA (My opinion is that @ITAHTM could be better). Everyone write about this theme and a little referendum takes place. The results are going to arrive during the initial days of September. In the meantime the Local NET, here in my city, wakes up after a long period of lethargy. The most active station are IT3GAS, IT3JEZ and IT3MAN. Then ITA514 sends me an E-Mail saying that his PC is working and we could restart FWD via internet. In this period of isolation, ITA586 has worked very well, and has created a Net made by station of the Italian Civil Protection in Friuli connected between netrom nodes. ITA335 has disappeared closing his BBS and I think he won't return. But italian CB Packet isn't sleeping and I3ECHO, with a lot of other people, organizes a petition for the legalization of packet on CB band, as in the rest of european countries. And now, what is going to happen in the following months? 20/08/99...Unfortunately the BBS ITA490 had QRT in 01/01/2000. There are a lot of motivation: a slow FWD exchange in the NET, a lot of time problems for the SysOp, the decreasing of the users connecting the BBS from the city. It has been a difficult decision, but I think I have done the right thing. I hope that someone, in the future, will try to open a new BBS in Trieste...I'm ready to help him 8-) . Now I want to say goodbye to all the people I knew in the NET and I send them the last '73 from the BBS ITA490...Good luck...
