Use your Bubble Gun to form clusters of three or more bubbles of the same color. The cluster will "pop" and any "freed" bubbles will drop down.
The green bar at the bottom of the screen tells you how much time you have until the next Bubble Quake. When a Bubble Quake occurs, a fresh row of bubbles appears at the top of the screen, shifting all existing bubbles down by one row. Also your scoring multiplier decreases with each Bubble Quake (from 10x to 5x to 2x to 1x to 0x). The scoring multiplier is reset to 10x when you reach a new level.
As you advance levels, the number of initial bubble rows increases, and the interval between Bubble Quakes gets shorter.
Scoring
Each bubble you pop or cause to drop gives you a number of points equal to the scoring multiplier (SM). So if you pop a lone cluster of 3 bubbles, you'll get 3 x SM points. When the SM reaches 0x, you will not score any more points until you clear the level.
Goal
The goal is to get the high score.
Keyboard Controls
- Left and right arrow keys aim your Bubble Gun.
- Space bar fires the currently loaded bubble.
- Hit 'S' at any time to toggle sound on/off.
Tips
- The bubble in the lower left corner lets you know what color is coming up, so you can plan ahead.
If you're able to successfully run BubbleGun on a platform not listed here, please email me at steve_ko@geocities.com.
Mac OS
You must use Apple Applet Runner. Select Open URL... and add the following entry:
- Name: BubbleGun
- URL: http://geocities.datacellar.net/SiliconValley/Peaks/9857/Bubble.html
MS Internet Explorer 3.01 does not properly route the arrow key events to the applet. Hence, BubbleGun is not very playable on MS IE. You can fire bubbles, but you can't aim.
Netscape Navigator 3.01 doesn't seem to register clicks in external windows.
Windows 95 & NT
I've been told that Netscape Navigator on a fast Pentium works.
In the coming weeks, I want to add the following features to BubbleGun:
- Interesting initial patterns of bubbles that get progressively more difficult.
- A timer that forces your gun to fire if you wait too long.
- A high score server.
- Special "power-up" bubbles.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions, let me know!
