DDS Tape Drive Notes

NGEN Style: B25-DDS (1GB drive, released 11/92), B25-DDS2 (2GB drive).
SG Style 4GB drive type: PCT 4000-INT / Sony SDT-5010 (with BIOS identifying drive as UNISYS).

Standard Software Level required: at least R12.2.0, R12.3.100 added Tape Eject command.

The following applies to the SG style drive.

Front Panel Status Lights
GENERALLY the lights mean the following:
BUSY    - The tape is being used.
TAPE    - There is a tape in the drive OR there are tape errors (less common)
STATUS  - Tape is write protected OR tape drive needs a clean OR drive failure.

Tape Drive Cleaning.
The tape drive indicates that it requires cleaning by flashing the STATUS light ON for 3 1/2 seconds then OFF for 1/2 second.
To clean the drive:
Using a DDS Cleaning Tape ONLY:
1. Remove any tape that is in the drive.
2. Load the cleaning tape into the drive.  The drive then cleans itself,
   and then ejects the tape after a 15 second delay.
3. Store the cleaning tape until it’s required again.
 

Tape commpression
Tape compression jumper can effect if a tape can be read by other drives.
 

Tape replacement.
Any reputable brand can be used.
