Shareware of the month! (November/December) By: George Edward Green III
Beginning this month macRelations will be recommending shareware on a monthly basis. Any of this shareware may be obtained from either Download.com, or Info-Mac, and probably your favorite shareware sites as well. This month we will not give prices, or links, however we will begin doing that new month. Enjoy!
Finder Pop: This handy utility makes it so that when you press and hold the mouse button in MacOS 8 it automatically generates the contextual menu. This is opposed to the default setting of MacOS 8 which forces you to use control click. It also ads several customizable contextual menus. I have found that this utility can significantly aid in finder navigation. I used to use a utility called Smooth Move to move stuff to various folders on my hard drive, but it wasn’t compatible with MacOS 8. This utility allows me to move things in a similar manner, quickly and effectively. A very handy utility if you use contextual menus.
Startup Doubler: And they said it couldn’t be done. Startup Doubler is very nice piece of shareware that shaves time off of the startup. I am not really sure how it does this, but I have gathered that it requires one to shutdown normally for it to take effect. This works great for my slow starting Performa, as I have plenty of extensions, and a slow drive. Faster computers with less extensions will probably not notice a large difference, but us slower computer users can marvel at the effectiveness of this utility.
Well, that’s it, we’ll have some more utilities next month, and probably more than a couple.
