ABSTRACT
Closed Circuit TV systems have been used extensively for the purpose of security and surveillance. Recently efforts have been made to automatically monitor surveillance video data in analogue as well as digital systems to provide indications of events like fire, intrusion and flooding. Research has also been conducted in digitising video data at the source, compressing it and communicating it over digital networks. Compression techniques and algorithms that have been considered most suitable compress images in transform domain.
This talk presents some of the initial experiments that have been conducted at Loughborough to determine the feasibility of monitoring compressed images from CCTV cameras in transform domain to provide indication of above mentioned events. Such systems, if feasible, would capture compressed image frames over the network, extract suitable DCT coefficients and analyse them to provide indication of occurrence of various events in the scene.
