Sept 00 – current
Symantec Security Services (Axent Technologies)Provided architectural solutions for client managed services encompassing Symantec (ex-Axent) products and other 3rd party products including RSA SecurID and Check Point Firewall-1. Developed excellent understanding of Axent products including Raptor Firewall and VPN, Defender, ITA, ESM and NetRecon. Involved in both implementation and operational environment as part of managed security services which we provided to customers. Developed systems that provided early warning of potential intruders and also various automated and on-demand reporting functions. Implemented cross-platform IPSEC VPN’s (Cisco to Raptor to FW-1) as part of customer strategy to provide 3rd party connectivity via Internet.
Sept 99 – Sept 00
Xerox CorporationWorked as a contractor (1-year contract) for Xerox in conjunction with EDS. Supported and implemented various European firewalls which included Firewall-1’s and Gauntlets. Responsibilities included technical support for VPN software implementation being rolled out to various 3rd parties and general support of the firewalls. Developed a centralized reporting and usage system using Webtrends. Developed alert mechanisms for the firewall to provide early warning of potential intruders and hackers. Was involved in SecurID support for European users.
July 98 – Sept 99 Dimension Data Security
Transferred to Dimension Data Security as part of a joint venture between DD Networking and their wholly owned ISP, the Internet Solution. Have been heavily involved, since the company’s inception, in the installation and support of the company’s primary focus Check Point's Firewall-1. Obtained a CCSA, CCSE and CCSI (Certified Check Point Security Administrator/Engineer/Instructor). Have done extensive work with Firewall-1 in both an installation and support role. Have worked with a number of OPSEC-compliant products including ACE/Servers, Websense, Webtrends and MIMESweeper version 4 (for Firewall-1 and SMTP). Have worked extensively with Stonebeat (am a CSE - Certified Stonesoft Engineer) and done installations on both Solaris and NT.
Developed DNS, mail and routing (Cisco) skills from various Firewall-1 installations. Also involved in DNS administration of ISP nameservers.
Sound TCP/IP, protocol and Microsoft networking knowledge (WINS, DHCP etc)
OS skills included Solaris 2.6 and Windows NT (primarily involved with these on a firewall implementation side)

Worked in the presales department focusing on network security. Had exposure to various areas including switching, routing, RAS and VPN's. My job functions included complementing the salespeople with technical information, product knowledge and designs to integrate devices such as firewalls as efficiently and as effectively as possible into existing environments. My function was essentially to be the interface on a security level between the technical staff and the sales people. My job required me to have an in-depth technical background in all products, which the company provided a value added services in, including firewalls (both router-based and dedicated machines) and secure RAS solutions.

Worked in the computer hardware and software retail store as a floor salesperson. Job required detailed knowledge of all hardware and software in the shop. Responsibilities included providing information to customers on stock availability and providing extra information on business software products.
Sept 96 - Dec 97 Pastel Software
Worked for the company as a representative for their various accounting packages. Was responsible for providing detailed information about the packages to potential customers in the software retail stores and acting as a support person to existing customers on weekends.
Feb 97 - July 97 University of the Witwatersrand
Worked for the university as a tutor. Responsible for helping students with any problems that they may have with the tutorials. Tutored mainly 2nd and 3rd year Accounting Information Systems students on a SQL course.
