I worked for AirTouch Cellular (now Verizon Wireless) for 10 years and for the last 5 years as a Software Engineer devoted exclusively to Perl Development in whatever capacity was required. Actually I'd trained myself in Perl starting in 1993, mainly due to the limitations of the unix utilities and shell scripting (which is why Perl was created), then in mid 1994 I went hogwild and developed from scratch several core projects that had significantly better results than either the company or myself had ever figured.

From filtering to database interaction to switch emulators, to customizeable database quering tools to creating adhoc reports from gigs of system data and turning it into readible relavant information for Engineers, Managers, Directors, and even the CEO. Eventually I was managing Network Engineering Software Support for all of Southern California for AirTouch Communications.

To challenge myself I tried in 1998 to make the transition to Windows as relatively seamless from both the programmer and user stand point and succeeded far better than I expected.

Due to expanding experience, the immergence of Perl as the dominant web language of choice by many, and significant changes I chose to leave AirTouch on September 1, 1999 and persued freelance Perl Developing. Obviously contracting has a certain attractiveness to it although with a wife and son to support my wife and I both would prefer a Permanent position. In any case I'd have to consider each opportunity as it comes.

Also, if you're a headhunter please move quickly as other headhunters are most likely looking as well and might get there first, of course, it would be nice if clients didn't send the same requisition to multiple recruiters as it tends to confuse everyone kind of like a runaway loop.
