women we must push to see ourselves being the
opposite of what people believe or think. As time
pushes us we must push harder and that means
working harder at succeeding in a world that has
us stranded in a mentality of Ghetto though we are
not...don`t fool yourselves and believe in the American
dream for its a night mare and we must wake and fight
for "what we want", not just as "Black Men and
"Women", but as
" HUMANS BEINGS ".
I`m sometime the color of sand kissed by the sun, I walk this earth in
different Hues depends who I am born to...my life is one of great stress
and often strife in history I have died, for freedom, Bore children of men
that hated me for the color of my skin, I live now as the womb and the seed
of many my life is always beginning even in death I continue on.......
cannot be understood or dealt with properly if they are not seen in proper perspective. In the first place, the statistics point to the minority of Black men who are experiencing increasing difficulty in coping with racism compounded by automation and a changing work force. These numbers are off a little bit, but you get what l mean. There are 12,8466,000 Black Males in America --- 8,084,000 are 18 years and over compared with 9,628,000 Black women 18 years and over ---and most of then are working side by side with Black women for a New World and a new future. Second, and most importantly, the statistics are reflections not of Black masculinity but of a society which is, in some respects, an organized conspiracy against Black masculinity.
Given the circumstances which attend the birth (Black males have the highest mortality rate in the first 28 days of life), life and death of most Black men, it is scarcely surprising that some fall by the wayside. What is surprising and worthy of long thought is that so many stay the course. These men --- see "The Class of 1983," Page 154, and "Black Breakthroughs," page 176 --- are exploiting the new opportunities of the today and creating new models of masculinity for both Blacks and Whites.

The prophets of doom were wrong during the Slave Trade they were wrong during the post-Reconstruction period they were wrong during the Great Depression of the 30s; and, if history is a guide,they are For history tells us that it is a losing proposition to bet against Black men, whose very existence has been a defiance of the odds and whose path of destiny has always been upward into danger and the unknown.
That is the message and the meaning --- and the hope --- of this page, which tells you and I that despite the adversities of the moment, the strong men --- the Washington’s, the Young’s, the Jackson, the Dr. J’s --- keep on coming on, thereby fulfilling the prophecy of the fathers who said, through Sterling A.
