Cayman Brac is a true water lover's
destination. There are wrecks (300-foot Russian Frigate sunk in the
fall of 1996), towering coral heads, impressive drop offs and gigantic
sand chutes. The Dolphin/Stingray Statue was sunk in January 2003.
Greenhouse Reef and Buccaneers are shallow reef dives
(20-60 ft) and display spectacular coral rising to within feet of the
surface.
Wall dives start quite deep on the island (about 70-100ft) and provide
quite a different dive experience. For snorkeler's the visibility is
superior, usually ranging from a crystalline clear 150-200 feet.
About five miles west across very
deep water from the Brac is the beautiful almost uninhabited island
known as Little Cayman. It is roughly the same size as the Brac but no
bluff or caves are found there. It has a grass air strip and is a
standard stop for dropping off the residents when you fly the small
charters out of Grand Cayman. So if you crave absolutely breaththaking
deep wall dives or diving for conchs in electric blue shallows.
DON'T MISS IT !
